So after a year and a half of use and on two different helicopters I had an incident with my beastx on my Velocity 50 nitro. Third flight of the day I was hovering inverted and it did a twitch in the roll axis, maybe 30 degrees. I leveled it, rolled to upright and it twitched in roll again. The tail did a small twitch and it did another roll twitch. This was all as I was bringing it in to land after the initial twitch while inverted. In my haste to get it on the ground I stripped a tail gear but that is fine. Best I can think of is vibration induced. The engine tune is a bit rich mostly because this time of year there is often a 30 degree temp change as the day progresses and what is good in the morning is rich in the afternoon and I have not leaned it in for the full summer temp season yet. I generally run on the rich side anyway and I am surprised it is becoming a problem now after all this time and the countless flights I have had without any problems.

I will say I noticed some wobble during tic-tocs today as well that hadn't been there before.

When I get my new tail gears I will run it up without blades and see if I can reproduce the problem. I will also check all the connections. I will check the mounting tape, maybe it needs to be freshened up with a new piece but I don't see why that would be necessary as it isn't directly exposed to the nitro. I may also replace the dampeners in the head, they might be getting long in the tooth and causing a vibration.

Tomorrow I will test things out. The tape seems fine but I Milton Modded it with the ziptie and fuel tubing. I never bothered with it when I built the helicopter a year ago but I had the Beastx strapped when it was on my Rappy. I also checked the wires and 4 were not pushed in all the way on the Beastx. They were out a few mm, the channels 1,2,3 and 4 on the Beastx. I could not push them in by hand so I think they were always like that. I did push them all the way in though with a hex driver. I always check all the connectors by pushing on them when I install the rx battery. Don't know that this was a factor but better safe than sorry.

I am still going to run it up on the ground without blades and see if the swash tilts. It's not supposed to be as hot as it was during the incident, my tune will probably be closer to optimal so I probably won't get the vibes that most likely came from a rich tune on a hot day. Still odd though, I have flown with crappier tunes and not had issues.

Got back from the field. I ran it up with no blades, richened it up so it would be sloppy and vibratey with the fuel dancing in the tank and no swash tilt. Installed the blades and retuned, flew well. Seems a bit more locked in. I am assuming the connectors being out a bit could have been an issue but I suspect tying down the Beastx with the fuel tube'd zip tie is what probably fixed it. The tape might be a bit degraded and the strap probably firmed things up. All I can say is it works now and that makes me happy.

I have two beasts, and they are tape snobs. If you use the wrong tape, they want to roll over like a dead dog. I'm talking a hard roll not a slow drift.

Then give them some 3M tape, and they are solid as a rock, no drift nothing.

If the tape looks compressed , I'd change it out. ASAP.
