I have been trying to follow all the articles on this new engine and alot of pilots are installing them in diffrent frames, but is there any manufactures making a kit yet for this engine? it has been released for a while now but I havent heard much about it. On my last visit to Airstar joseph expressed interest in making a smaller mongoose using this engine but nothing yet.

You can certainly try it if you like, but looks to me like alot of people are having longevity issues with this motor...more on that on the freaky site.

Seems like the O.S. is going down the same path as the old Webra gas conversion that also looked like a nitro engine converted.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

You mean that they going to discontinue production of this engine?

I think the claim of 2.7 hp at 17,000 rpm for this 15cc GASOLINE engine is very misleading (maybe BS?) cause it seems to me that based on vids of it runnning its torque is just not there, thats why it needs a gear ratio of around 1:9 to do ok. I feel that as a result of this that guys are pushing this little engine too hard and burning them up by screwing too much with the needle settings in hopes of getting rid of that bogging sound when pushed hard...

Anybody test this puppy with a prop on the bench to verify the 2.7 hp at 17000rpms?...a $500 test is a bit rich for me right now

you'll need a 11X5 APC prop to test it... if it can spin it to 17000 you have 2.6hp...

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

Need Heli companies to make ships for this new engine!
Waiting for the Fury 6G using the new OS GT15HZ my self

I even think 620mm blade was to much (Watching Bobby's test flight with the furry.55 conversion) but a super light weight 600mm blade size machine max with the new GT15HZ with the right gear ratio to make this machine pop would be better or better yet.. How about MA make their first 550mm size machine and engineer a design to be a 3D champ with the OS gas engine.

I think it would sell so well, it would be hard to keep kits in stock!! If they can make a deal with OS and make combo kits with the new engine Ill be all over this new kit along with many others I'm sure

Thoughts?

Why? I have never heard a rave about this engine from anyone. Why would any company make one to use this engine? If I am wrong point me to some success stories.

The sponsored guys have nothing but good things to say about it

IMO the only way this little engine could have any measure of success is to drop its price down in order to make it more competitive...nearly $500 for an engine? really? and its obviously underpowered in a 600 and more so in a 700...,

Ive read too much bad stuff on this GT15...no thanks.

I have seen some videos of it doing really good, here is one with 690mm blades

and a hacked 600N with gt-15 ...

I think tuning has ALL to do with it, along with collective management!

From what I see a purpose built 550 or light 600 would rock and would have plenty of power for 3D with pennies a flight

Cheers,
Raven

don't know if there is a "best" yet but in the low/mid 8's has pretty good results.

I just couldn't imagine spending that much and having it blow up on me like I have seen.

But, I do think it's good that companies are trying new things and pushing forward. Regardless of how things are playing out for this engine, I think it's still a good thing and can only lead to further improvements.

I only hope this does lead to better reliability and ultimately better performance. Sad for the early adopters, but I surely hope they all knew they were beta testing.

The fact that not 1 manufacturer wants to make a kit for this engine or even a conversion for it speaks volumes in my book.

If the guys with money won't invest in it why should I.

Good luck to OS15 owners I'm sure it will do ok in a plank.

Hirobo currently sells a purpose made kit:

- FREYA Evolution OP SWM SSZ-V for GT15HZ

they made the chassis changes to adapt the motor and use a modified gear ratio

Some nice vids! Thx for posting them. If in fact it works for most people [i dont know this] there is still a problem for me in paying more money for less displacement, even if there is a small weight improvement with the O.S. Too bad their first heli engine is such a small displacement.

I think
OS is going with the same idea about gas engines from other manufacturers for airplanes. They do charge a premium for them because they feel that people will want them to get away from Nitro. There are a couple others, I think Saito made a 20 as well and if I'm not incorrect they charged a pretty penny for it.

There is more cooling in an airplane for these and they should work better there though the one I was helping a guy out at the field with seemed quite finniky in its needle settings and did not perform well in transitions and such. We just chalked it up to "needs more breakin time" to get more reliable hopefully, in other words it didn't work perfectly out of the box like a zenoah engine would.
