Just placed an order for a Futaba 14SGH today I've read that the programming is a bit more cryptic than radios I'm used to. Is there a great web resource or 2 that would help me get up to speed quickly, or is it really not that different? Would hate to start posting questions on RR everyday if I could avoid it.

Also, I'll be flying large scale planes and 600+ elec helis with the full size receiver, but for a 450, would the Futaba R2006GS 6-Channel receiver be the best choice even though it's advertised for the 6J radio?

Thanks.

Telemetry (finally!), 14 channels, and S-Bus...looking forward to checking out this radio

The programming is pretty straight-forward, it's just a bit-different than some-of the other models.

MalcolmHolt is supposed to have a secondary-manual that has helped a few other guys with programming Planes and Sailplanes but it does not cover Heli's.

I went with the R6106HFC FASST RX. for my T-Rex 250, it's the mid-range model and uses a longer antenna-lead.

Not sure about placement-of your R2006GS RX. in a 450 as it is not the end-pin type RX. (?) I've always found it easier to mount the end-pin type RX.' in both smaller and larger Helis. The S-FHSS RX. will work with the 14SGH TX. though.

Thanks, I'll do a bit more homework before ordering any extra receivers.

Just received an email notice that my order has shipped

Now to decide whether or not to sell my old radio to help fund my new heli, or to hang on to it for BNF stuff and existing models :P

Hey that's great - thanks Four Stroker. Skimmed through their website not long after this post for a facepalm moment, but I appreciate you chiming in.

I'm reading through the manual now and man, this thing is loaded with functionality! I've lived in Japan for several years, so it's kind of funny, I sorta understand some of the Japenglish. But yeah, the manual is definitely in need of a makeover. :/

Dave,

Did you live in the Seattle area at one time?

Jeff, yes I did. Back in 2007 you responded to one of my first posts on RR as a new RC heli owner and volunteered to help me get started. I will never forget the generous help you gave me getting my very first heli in the air! People like you make this hobby what it is.

It's great to hear from you! Are you still flying (in RL too??)

I thought that was you. Yes still doing RC flying and the big stuff. Last year we had a trip that went around the world, 9 countries and 19 cities, it was good fun.

Glad to hear you are still enjoying the hobby. You will really like the Futaba gear. I have been flying with a 12Z for some time now and really like it. I especially like the S-Bus receivers. I have been using an S-Bus receiver with my V-bar. It's nice to have only one wire going from the V-bar unit to the receiver, makes for a very clean setup.

Thank you for the kind words. I still very much enjoy helping people. These days it's just a bit difficult to squeeze in as much fun time for me, I have to be a responsible adult.

Take care,

Jeff

Sell your old radio and get a spektrum module for the 14sg to fly the BNF stuff. Best of both worlds.

That looks good - best of both worlds! I couldn't find a manual, does it simply plug into the trainer port?

I bought that one, I was going to buy the module from hobby king and just mod it myself, but after paying shipping that would have only saved me $20. It's a very nice product, plugs into the trainer port so I can control anything with my 14sg.

I have little patience.
When I was in my early teens before internet and tracking numbers I Would clime a tree at the end of the drive way and look for the ups truck with a long range scoope off a rifle.
I could see about 3 miles. The Ups truck would look like a hot wheels truck coming over the hill.

@Cadriel: GrandRC. I PM'd you, but then figured it wasn't a question that crossed any 'rules' lines so I reposted. They had it in stock the day I was buying and at a good price, just had to deal with West Coast shipping :/

Just got the radio in this week. I really like the way it feels in the hands, as well as the polished look. Can't wait to setup a few aircraft with it.

Still rebuilding my Trex 450, and have a Yak54 foamy in the mail. The real test will be when I get my 700 electric heli and 50cc plane in August

Hopefully I know what I'm doing with the radio by then.

Thanks David. I've read your pm - I'm on business here in the states (from New Zealand) for two weeks so I'm short on time at the moment. I did manage to order and receive a new 14sg though. Had a play with it - I'm coming from a dx8. Can't say I'm a fan of how you setup the timers but other than that all else looks pretty good.

I'll be setting up a 7hv, x5, small foamy and a large hexacopter. Should easily cover off my requirements there. I'll let you know in another couple of weeks how things go.
