When you have down time I would send it in, they replaced my vibration motor, and antenna. Its not worth the risk of crashing especially if it can exceeded the value of the radio.

Ugly can be fixed stupid is forever!

That was a big issue when the DX-8 came out. Mine never did it but I was always nervous about some kind of failure. I sold it and switched systems eventually.

It's crazy though that I got about 160 flights on the radio with the heli before it started acting up with an additional 100 or so flying a plane. It didn't malfunction right from the get go.

Unfortunately I don't have any down time so maybe this winter? LOL!!

My DX8 was not on the recall list, but it still crashed one of my heli's twice before I realized that it was the vibe that did it. I stopped using it and when the firmware came out that was meant to tone down the vibes I gave it another try, but after a week or so it took one of my 450's down.
Mines out of warranty - I just live without the vibes.

I took advantage of the father's day sales this weekend and bought a Futaba 14sg and receivers for all three of my helis.

That's one way to solve your glitch and mysterious lockout problems.

Luckily my issue didn't involve a crash but it sure scared the daylights out of me!! I've turned the vibe off on all of my aircraft now. I really don't need it anyway as I can hear the tone.

Anybody know why that would only happen on the heli and not my planes? I tried to replicate the same results on my planes but after about 15 attempts, nothing happened.

Because vibration damage takes its toll over time. It just took that long for the vibe motor to finally start causing problems. From what I remember, the vibe motor wasn't mounted well enough. There were also issues with loose/not fully seated connectors where the vibration would make things much worse. Horizon issued a "fix" to lessen the intensity of the vibe motor (i.e. slow it down) in one of their DX8 firmware update downloads, but that didn't put an end to the issue, hence the recall of sorts with the PID numbers inside the battery compartments. If you haven't already, check your number against the list of known problems and see if yours matches up.

Again, I've already checked and called Horizon and my radio is not on the list.

I was also curious as to why it only affects one of my helis and not any of my planes.

It doesn't matter. Send it in. Even then you still might not be safe. I've read of reports where people sent their DX8s in specifically for the vibe problem and it was still happening after Horizon supposedly fixed the radios.

You really have to be on top of these PID numbers. For example, another huge issue with early DX8s was the crappy connector plugs used on the gimbal pots. They took the easy way out with those connectors instead of hard soldering the wires to the pot boards. People were having glitchy sticks, cross-talk between gimbal axes, unreliable centering, etc. A PID "recall" was issued and the fix was to, obviously, solder the wires. People opened up DX8s what weren't on the PID list for this problem and guess what? They found out they had the connectors even though the production line change had already been made to stop using the connectors. They had old stock radios, but their PID numbers had slipped the list somehow. I actually pulled my DX8 apart to check for this even though my PID was "safe". Soldered wires...phew!

My radio was definitely not on the list, either, yet it definitely had the problem. I sent it in. They have fixed it (not sure what all they did) and it's on its way back to me now. I would definitely send it in if it's done it even once.

Well, there ya go. Yet another report of having problems and not being on the PID list.
I sent it in. They have fixed it (not sure what all they did) and it's on its way back to me now.
Per my post above, CHECK that on the bench or with micros and don't trust their work to a valuable aircraft until you do.

When the vibration is activated from the timer, the device pulls juice from the battery. This unexpected draw has caused many crashes with the DX8.

And vibrating already loose connectors that may have been loose from the factory or loosened up over time.

Not sure if it's a battery issue as I'm running a 4000 mAh LiPo but I will definitely send it in for evaluation / repair. I sure would hate to lose a machine over something so trivial!!

I was also running a 4k man lipo in mine, so I don't think it is a power deficiency issue.

As far as not trusting mine after I get it back, I already bought its replacement and one of my coworkers is buying it. We will definitely check it out thoroughly before he flies with it.
