Is anybody using the Align RCE-G600 governor on their Zenoah Z231 gasser? I had one around so I thought I would try it. I mounted the sensor on the side to pick up the magnet off the magneto and it seems to see it fine. I see the light flash on/off when I turn the engine by hand, so I know it sees the magnets. When I tried running it (without the blades on), it would surge when I had the governor enabled. I tried turning the gov down to its lowest setting and it would still keep jumping the throttle up and down.
Do I need to do it under load (hover), or will this governor not work with that motor?
I could run it without a governor for now since I'm not doing any power-taxing flight. No loops or rolls, just some tune-up hovering and slow forward flight. But, I would like to get it set up with one for the future. I'm running about 2000 rpm headspeed in a hover with 600 blades (Century 600 gasser conversion). I have yet to upgrade the tail boom and larger blades. I want to get some of my learning out of the way before I go changing things up.

Yes
You can use the sensor just glued or gooped to the side of the motor to pickup the magneto and it will work with a gasser. I prefer the gv-1 myself but my friend Larry uses the align governor with good success just like stated above.

I tried it and could never get it to work. Problem is that its got a hard coded gear ratio and gain that can't be changed. It's internally set up to work on faster revving nitros with quicker response times. I also tried the MultiGov and even after spending lots of time tweaking and speaking with tech support, I couldn't get it to work reliably either.

It wasn't until I finally gave up and got the GV1 that things finally started working for me.

I even went as far as installing 2 magnets opposite of each other to try to trick it and it still wouldn't work properly.

I would suggest saving yourself some time, frustration and effort and go with something else.

Allows you to eliminate the magnets and sensors.

It plugs right into the kill switch and reads the values directly from from the built in hardware.

It's very convenient and keeps you from having to install and position a sensor to read the magnet thru the case or, at worst, install magnets elsewhere. You don't "need" it, but it is definitely worth the price for the convenience of it.

I'm using a align G600 gov on my Whiplash with a TT270 engine. The setup works great and I don't have any engine problems.

It should be noted that Raja's friend Larry helped set up mine

Couldn't get it to work at all on mine. It just kept revving the motor up and down.
I found a GV1 on EBay. Hopefully I will have that set up for this weekend.
