A shocking new poll shows the public believes the Obama administration is trying to cover up the truth about the Benghazi terrorist attack. It's not the poll numbers themselves that are so shocking, but who is reporting this embarrassing development for the Obama administration.

The new poll was conducted by ABC News/Washington Post and revealed that 55% of Americans now believe the Obama administration is "trying to cover up the facts" about Benghazi. Check out the headline that ran in the Washington Post:

Over 80% of Americans support background checks to buy a gun. Oddly, public opinion does not seem to matter in that situation.

Bullsh#t.

Obviously, it does. They could not get the bill passed because they were concerned about their stinking jobs.

Only those who don't fully understand what all was in the bill, supported the background checks. We actually already have background checks, and if you don't believe it, go try to buy a new gun at a dealer.

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - A new Pew Research study suggests that 81 percent of Americans support background checks for gun sales.

Conversely, only 17 percent stated to survey takers that they are against measures that would enforce background checks for both private purchases of guns and transactions made at conventions.

http://washington.cbslocal.com/2013...kground-checks/
The most recent surveys included a CNN/ORC International poll released last week that indicated 86% of the public supported some form of background checks that are not currently required by law for gun sales, and an ABC News/Washington Post survey released Tuesday which indicated that 86% of Americans said they favored background checks for gun sales on the internet and at gun shows.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.co...control-defeat/
Several recent polls have shown overwhelming support for universal background checks, with approval reaching 90 percent in some cases.

http://www.usnews.com/debate-club/s...r-gun-purchases
Prior to the Senate's failure to pass the measure, numerous polls showed that roughly nine in 10 Americans favor expanded gun background checks in concept -- a fact that a number of journalists, columnists, and politicians made note of. Gallup's Jan. 19-20 survey, for example, showed that 91% of Americans said they personally would vote for a measure requiring criminal background checks for all gun sales.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/162083/a...ass-senate.aspx
We found two independent polls have attempted to take the pulse of the NRA’s membership on universal background checks, the linchpin of both the failed compromise amendment sponsored by Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Pat Toomey, R-Pa, and the underlying bill sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. Here’s how the data stacks up.

• One poll was done by CBS News and the New York Times. The survey, conducted Jan. 11-15, 2013, found that 85 percent of those living in a household with an NRA member favored background checks for all potential gun buyers.

• The other survey, by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, was taken Feb. 13-18, 2013. It found that "people in NRA households overwhelmingly favor making private gun sales and sales at gun shows subject to background checks: 74 percent favor this proposal while just 26 percent are opposed."

These results verify that rank-and-file NRA members and those who live with them favor universal background checks by margins of between 74 percent and 85 percent.

Yes, I know. The polls are all wrong and were taken by the Lefty commie gay loving America hating MSM. But pay attention to the last link and the author of the studies cited in it.

Once again the facts prove that while you think you are the majority, you folks are in fact, the narrow minority.

So, if I understand you correctly, your point is that the overwhelming support of universal background checks is due to ignorance? If so, cannot the same thing be said of the poll you cited? The 55% that think Obama is hiding something about Benghazi think that because they don't fully understand the issue??

Actually, all I read says it will get much worse for Obummer once all is known about Bengazi.

There were many things in the background check bill that had nothing to do with background checks, and everything to do with owner registration, the precursor to confiscation.

Background checks at gun shows and shops are mostly fine with me. There is risk that the govt will corrupt the process - like the IRS does for example...

Other problem is the stuff thats gets added on... further restrictions, data colection and registrations for future govt misuse... None of that is OK. ever.

fwiw..

Background checks are, prima facie, Unconstitutional....Only way they could be legal would be if Congress changed the Second Amendment..Which they could do by following the Constitution.
The current trend in goverment "interpretation" of the founding documents has led us to a mental wilderness imagineered by Lewis Carroll.."Words mean what I wish them to mean..Nothing less and nothing more"...Ironic that the government seems destined for the fate of the character just described.

All in all...Our "government" is irrelevant.

Who cares if support is 99.9% Phallus??? That's the whole point. We're a Republic, not a Democracy.
FWIW.... most of us pro-gunners are quite OK with background checks. That's not our problem with the bills they tried to pass and you know that.

Missing the point entirely, again. The OP cites a poll about doubting the Benghazi incident. I cited polls about support for background checks. Point being (and I will type as slowly as possible so you guys can follow along)

You cannot say the OP's point that 55% think Obama is hiding something is valid and then DISMISS the polls that say 80% to 90% support universal background checks.

As is so often the case, you guys are so far behind reality you think you are leading the race!!

And once again, I cannot tell you how amusing I find it that alleged adults are unable to have a conversation about something without using childish twists on names. "Phallus"?? Oh, you are too funny my friend. Although it falls short of Dennis calling everyone "Slick". See, the thing is, if you act like an idiot, people will treat you like an idiot.

Phaedrus,

My point about the poll of the people who are in favor of the background check bill is not that the numbers are not valid, but that the people surveyed do not know what is in the bill. I believe if everyone did know what was in it, they wouldn't be for it.

My original post states that "the public believes the Obama administration is trying to cover up the truth about the Benghazi terrorist attack." Not that they are for, or against Obama or the investigation of this scandal.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

OK - I'll take that one back Phaedrus.... mea culpa.
My point still stands though. Constitutional amendments are not American Idol. We don't vote on them. We also don't get to vote on who gets a pass on breaking the law and escaping perjury charges.
Sorry, but where there's smoke there's fire. As much as I dislike Obama, I can honestly say I dislike Holder 10x's more. He's supposed to be a man of law. If he is investigated thoroughly and openly....we will find he's abused his powers more times than even I can imagine.
As far as BG checks, I'd be willing to bet if the bill was laid bare and put into lay terms for all to see, that number would be much much lower. I can HONESTLY say, I've yet to talk to anybody that's OK with the bill as it's written.

Yup, every bill is loaded with unrelated crap, and in many cases even the title of the bill has nothing at all to do with the contents ... Patriot act ? Please don't insult us with spin. It was suposed to be a temporary bypass of information gathering controls. Call it what is.
