Logo 500 › Which V-Bar for a Logo550SX?

Hello guys,

Being an avid flybar enthusiast I stayed away from the Logos once I sold my old Logo10 and Logo24 Bionic and saw that Mikado no longer carried flybarred helicopters . However, this past Friday I finally bit the bullet and ordered my first flybarless helicopter, a Logo550SX (the 130x I own doesn't count ). However, the package deal with the V-bar was no longer in stock so I had to order the simpler heli, blades and Scorpion motor package from Readyheli to still take advantage of the 12% off special.

So now I'm ready to order the V-bar unit later today. But being a V-bar newb, which one should I get? Full size or mini? What do you experienced fliers recommend for this particular helicopter?

If I go with the mini, is this all I need?
http://www.readyheli.com/MIK4357-Mi...em-p-37053.html
Plus a couple of Spektrum satellite receivers?

Is it worth waiting for the 5.3? How come Readyheli doesn't sell the 5.3 version already, except with the larger Logo550SX package deal?

Anyways, sorry for all the newb questions but you gotta start somewhere. Looking forward to flying a Logo again. Thanks.

Chachin..

Finally did it huh... Congrats!!!! Both VBARS will fly exactly the same. The FS will offer more flexibility as far as more ports for power leads and no need for steps downs if you use the VBAR GOV.
5.3 should be standard and if not, the upgrade from 5.2 to 5.3 is free. The upgrade to the PRO software is 29 Euro (kinda like having to buy a castle link, Spartan link, etc to get the most out of the product) but then you get the ultimate in flexibility, the VBAR GOV, logging, vibration analysis and a few more things that help get your setup absolutely perfect.
I would go FS pro and get all you can. Good luck!!!!

I agree with everything he said :-) and I also reccommend the full size. You've got plenty of real estate to mount your avionics and the full size really does give you some more flexibility. I hope you enjoy it bro. My 550 is back home in Indiana waiting for me to build it in the fall :-) I can't wait!

Thanks for the quick feedback Ron, Lou! Ok, so I'm going to go with the full size Silverline here:
http://www.readyheli.com/MIK4608-Fu...em_p_40389.html

As far as the receiver, I normally run a Spektrum AR7010 rx in my flybarred helis. For this Vbar setup, does it only need the 2 satellite receivers or does it need the main 7010 rx + 1 satellite? I'll be using a DX7.

I don't mind getting the main 7010 rx + sat if it's more bullet proof. My ultimate goal here is reliability.

Thanks.

Two sats will work perfect. I've been doing this for some time and have had zero issues.

The 7010 is a DSMX rx right? Did you send the DX-7 in for an update to DSMX? If not, make sure you use (2) DSM-2 sats and select "1-2 satellites digital center" when binding.

Glad to hear Lou. I may go that route.

Ron, the latest AR7010 Rx's I use are DSMX. My DX7 is still DSM-2 though, but binds and is compatible with DSMX receivers (just doesn't operate with the full benefits of DSMX).

You think I'll need to update my radio? Do you also run V-bar + 2 sats or V-bar + main rx + 1 sat?

I know the rx will work with the either, there is a protocol issue I am not 100% that has been resolved with the VBAR and mixing sats so the safest route is to go all DSM2 or all DSMX (tx and sats) when using the VBAR and two sats.

I appreciate all the help guys! I'm going to go ahead and order the FS Silverline, an AR7010 + extra satellite and figure it all out when it gets here. I could use a new radio anyways, so I'll gladly replace it if needed.

Can't wait to get the heli and all the goodies! I'll start another thread with pics when I put it together.

Thanks again .

Chachin..

Edit: Just saw DSM2 satellites are still sold separately, so will order them.

First I think you will love the 550. I recently finished mine and it is an amazing Heli. I bought the combo w the mini, but I had the silver line already and used that. Sooo I have a mini still in the package if your interested. Might help you save a few $ for that radio.
Also I put a 15 t pinion and the 1100 mikado scorpion.
First they showed 13, then 14 but I believe mine came w 13. So think about what head speeds you'll want. I found it flies super peppy at 2300 + or - ,but you're mileage may vary.

Order Placed
Great call smittylube, just realized that the included 13t pinion is on the small side for a 3D setup on 6S. Unfortunately, the 14 and 15t pinions were out of stock. I'll order one or both as soon as they're available and shoot for 32 to 3300 rpms. Thanks for the offer on the mini-V, but decided to go full size (as recommended) for the full V-bar experience . I want this unit to be my benchmark for FBL systems.

All right, so I have the FS Silverline V-bar and a digital pitch gauge on the way from Readyheli (with the 12% discount) along with 2 DSM2 Spektrum satellites from Ronlund to minimize compatibility issues with my DX7.

Now I'm just missing a couple of BLS451 servos and a Jive 100 ESC to complete the heli package and it will be good to go. I should have that ordered in the next couple of weeks or so. The motor/airframe combo arrives tomorrow. The V-bar probably arrives the next day and I'll start reading through the manual. Pretty exciting, can't wait to check it out .

Any additional pointers are always welcome. Thanks again for everyone's good advice.

I've no doubts you'll love the Logo series, especially when coupled with the V-bar. I've had 4 logos over the years. I end up selling them to try different machines then come back to the logo. When I saw the 550 SX was coming I knew I had to have one. This time I'm keeping it ;-) They are great machines, very simple to work on and parts are very reasonable. The v-bar can be a little intimidating at first but you'll pick it up easy enough. They have come a long, long way from the 3.x firmware when I first started flying them. Enjoy it bro :-) they are built to be flown and will take anything you throw at them.

Oh yeah, you probably want the anti-static kit too. If they are out of stock, you can make one easy enough as well.

If you need it I snagged a 16 t pinion thinking I might want it, after flying my 15 it is fine. Still in package pm if you need it.

2 more flights on mine and it just gets better and better.

BTW I have the 5000 packs and I had some 4000 spyder packs. About 200 or so grams lighter. crazy how nice it flies with those. super light and floaty. Not quite as much pop, but autos more like the 600.

Very impressed with this heli.

Thanks for the offer smittylube, but the 16t is a bit on the high side according to my calculations. So I'll just patiently wait for the 15t to become available at Readyheli. I don't mind flying it with the 13t initially until I can get the 15t (or the 14t at least).

The box showed up today and boy it feels like Christmas in May! Went through the parts and manual, and man... you gotta love the simplicity of the Logos. V-bar should get here tomorrow.

I'm hoping this 550 size Logo (and the 550 Furion I'm building) becomes my go to heli. After many years of flying, I think this particular size of helis may offer the perfect balance of size and performance while still maintaining the simplicity of a 450's single pack connection/charging.

Chachin, enjoy that Logo 550 you stole from me! Yeah, I was going to get a Logo 550 from Readyheli this past weekend due to the Memorial day sale, but they were all sold out by the time I went to their website. Again, enjoy my heli!

And now that I look they are back out of stock . These Logos and parts must be selling like hot cakes!

However, I have received a VERY generous offer for a 15t pinion from a fellow member here. I can personally testify that there are still good people out there .

I'm going to go ahead and order the FS Silverline
Good choice, it's quite good overall.
I've noticed the FS reports fewer raised and high vibration errors than the mini for a given aggressiveness of flying. An extra $120 for better stability is worth it IMO.
