2013 NATS.... Coming Up Quickly!!!! Scale Heli.July 28-30
Darrell was going to start this thread but has been going night and day.
So I thought I would give this a bit of a jump start.

Well, it is about time we see who might be coming to the NATS this year..
I know two from Arkansas will be there... we are in the testing and flying mode, finally and just thought it would be nice to hear from others that are planning on being there this year.

Hoping to see a LOT of new faces...
From speaking with Darrell, everything is going to be run again as last year.. so there is know rushing around at the last minute, we will have a set schedule and we will start on Sunday with our pilots meeting, Monday with static and one flight round, and Tuesday 1 flight round in the morning and one in the afternoon (Darrell needs to confirm this!!!)

We all had a great time last year (especially me!!!) and looking forward to another great event...so get those entry forms in early..the AMA needs the register to know how many trophies and other things that are needed..

So whether you are new to scale, or an old veteran, come on out and lets have some fun...

Thanks, Stan

Cut and copy this list into your replies, lets get'r going....

Stan,

Keeping an eye on the nats info but as you know this year is out for me. (Just so you know Stan that wedding date was postponed so it’s off to a boat race just a week or so before the Heli nats. (the race is at the new AMA racing pond).
I would have to just about live at the AMA site for the month of July if I did it all. Lol.. It would go like this.. Fire up that grill Stan and toss on those porkchops that have been sitting in that cooler for the last 3 weeks.. NA.. just scrape the green stuff off of them they will be fine… Porta pot……….wherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.. Ambulance and a stomach pump!

I do however want to encourage anybody on the fence to give it some good thought.. Heck.. JUST SIGN UP!. I have flown with some of these gentlemen (and I do mean that) and can guarantee a great time.
I also approach each contest I go to (I have only been to a few heli contests but am In RC boat racing whore!) that win lose or draw I will get some much needed time with my buddy’s and learn to be or get better each and every time.

Thanks, Stan for getting the thread started. Yes I encourage anyone thinking about it to come on out and enter. Its a lot of fun and learning with a great bunch of characters, people.

A few tips, bring documentation. As judges we need to see the full size to fairly judge the model. If you install a cockpit show pictures. If doors open or hatches open show what is inside. If the ship you are modeling has something installed and the model doesn't try to use pictures that don't show it. Don't over or under document. Finally is not required, but we would like to have three sets of documents, it saves time and makes it easier on the judges :-):-).

Now about flying, pick five maneuvers and practice them in calm and windy conditions. Pick some back up ones to change to if flying conditions change. Make them easily to describe so we know what to look for. Take you time when flying, don't rush , set yourself up for the maneuver remember we don't judge until the caller says "start" and we stop at "end". Don't make it too difficult.
Just some info, we had a great turnout at Toledo this year. All the entries were scale both scratch built and kit. It made the judging difficult.

One other tip, do not forget to detail the head and blades. Paint the blades and head. Make sure the blades or head do not say, "Vario", "Align", etc. on them. As I think of anything else I'll add it to the thread.

Don't forget the IRCHA scale event it you can't make the NATS its a laid back event to introduce new builders to scale.

If anyone has questions ask of PM, Dave

Everything is up-in-the air for me due to work this year, again. However, I have the hotel room reserved just in case and I'm planning on being at IRCHA, but if I can attend the NATS I'll try or if days off are for NATS and not IRCHA I'll do that instead. I gotta be flexible with my schedule. I still won't have a completed helicopter to show and I certainly won't fly (competitively) as I've logged maybe half an hour since seeing you guys in Little Rock this past February, but I'll try bringing something (or two somethings) for critique and comments. Let you guys fly them again and get more critiques and comments. Boy I hope I can attend something this year.

Callers
....just to add to what Dave had stated, don't forget about your caller. Try and work with someone that will be coming with you or you've worked with before. Remember that the judges are going by what the caller says and when they say it. If the caller announces the wrong maneuver or announces "now" or "complete" at the wrong times it will cost the pilot points. The caller should stand right behind the piolt so not to block the view of any of the judges and should be LOUD and clear. And good caller can help calm the nerves of the pilot especially if its a friend and someone that has worked with and seen the pilot fly before. A good caller can also help critique the pilot and help him make changes in the following rounds. It seems and sounds like a simple job but again, the caller can help you or hurt you....Mark

Thanks for bringing that up Mark.. VERY TRUE...
If at all possible, practice together and each should know the flight routine so that it can be presented to the judges properly..

Getting close now....
