ccpm interactions?
Hi,

On my Predator when I move my swash from mid to high or mid to low with the blades going front to back and the paddles facing left and right I can see/feel the paddles wiggle a bit. I notice the swash front and back moving at slightly different rates. It seems more obvious when going from mid to high but can be felt when going mid to low as well. When moving from mid to high collective you can see the back 'overtake the front and then when reaching full collective the front 'catches up' so it is level at full pitch. I have the swash leveled at mid, low and high stick. If I rotate the head 90 degrees the paddles are pretty much stationary when moving collective low to high.

Does this sound like a servo issue?

Thanks for any input.

well there is always going to be some interaction even if you get everything mechanically zero on a FB head or even a FBL head to some degree.

the issue that you are having sounds like one of your servos is just a bit slower, it may not mean that the servo/s are bad, just that they are not matched "super perfect".

I know that when I saw a similar issue on my gasser the only way to reduce this slow servo issue was to go into my TX and play with the swash movement settings...Its been a while now but there is a way to slow or speed up your servos (within the servos limits obviously) to help deal with the lagging response of one of your servos. In my 8FG tx I messed with swash settings to get it fixed, just don't remember where it a was...I'm sure some body here does though.

Knowing what TX/RX and servos are you using would help BTW.

I've found that
More expensive servos work better than cheaper ones.

In other words, while I might see some slight interaction with Futaba 9252 servos, I didn't see it any more with BLS 451 servos and don't see it either with the BLS 255's.

The more expensive ones seem to center better and be matched better.

Thanks for the replies...

The servos are Futaba S3010 and I am using the Futaba 8FG. It is strange you can see the swash do a little dnace front to back when going mid to high. Of course it 'catches up' at the top because I leveled the swash mid, top, and low. As I said you can feel/see the paddles do a bit of a wiggle moving mid to high.

I think I am going to upgrade to at least digital servos as these are standard. I don't need fast as I just sport fly with some flipping and that's about it. The bls series is a bit beyond my budget at the moment.

If you know of a way to compensate in the 8fg servo menu please let me know. I don't know of anything that would let me increase one servo at a given point in the travel.

Thanks!

OK, found my 8FG manual,

in the swash setting menu, SWASH 5/5, compensation
there are settings for aileron and elevator speed. basically I think you are not "speeding up" a particular servo but rather slowing the others down so that the slow servo can keep up. You have to play with the setting there on the bench with a swash level bubble to make sure you are indeed working the interaction out. Doing this by eye is not a good idea IMHO.

FWIW
The FUT3010 servos, those are "ok", I used 3152s before upgrading to FBL and upgrading them. The servos are good enough for slow sport, but they are still slow, any fast moves of the swash would show as lagging speed from the elevator from high pitch or visa versa. once I started doing flips rolls, inverted stuff, Tic tocs, I started to notice that I was having issues with the heli flying cleanly through a move, I was fighting the heli alot trying to keep it clean. Before going FBL I took the plunge and spend $$ on BLS451s, you'll be surprized what a difference faster/stronger servos make to how much better a "connected feel" you'll get and overall better flight performance when you need it.

RM3 thanks for the reply!!

I went into the swash settings you mentioned and all I can see is the settings can be modified for aileron and elevator. I don't think there is any way to adjust (speed up/ slow down) travel for a single servo at a given point for collective inputs.

You are right, the servos I am using are marginal at best. And they are almost 4 years old, not that I fly a lot but they do get vibes from my Predator.

I am really thinking of picking up 3 bls451s from tower as I have a $50 discount if you purchase $300 w/free shipping.

Heck, I'll be making money.

Thanks again!
