it's interesting to see the reactions here to a little guy wearing man size pants. A 700 was OVERKILL when a 500 would have been sufficient.

It doesn't hurt to be PRO-ACTIVE in the area of safety, and part of the talent is showing an audience that, like a full size heli, the blades can seriously main if not kill, but the teachers might not have allowed him to fly then.

There aren't enough people thinking for the other person, and it would have gone horribly unpleasant should a disaster have occurred. The lay public is willing to accept some margin of error but it's prudent to stay one step ahead of the potential for harm.

There is a litany of early auto races that were nothing short of suicide in the early days yet men were tempted to continue to race against the odds.

A poorly engineered machine is dangerous and there are a lot of atrocious things out there we have near misses with from time to time.

Sure the kid can fly but can he think about the possibilities of a heli going into an audience or himself.

Yes helis have that secret evil, they slice shyt, mostly air however, and sometimes they fling a blade. Now are you going to tell everyone "It's all good".

Face it, the tip speed of a 700 may be no different than that of a household BLENDER.

Hypothetically, if an rc heli crashed and killed Hitler as a child, would ww3 have happened? (that lends itself to something known as Justifiable homicide). We don't know when where what or how, live on but think about other people why don't ya.

Here kid, try this bazooka, nice eh, that'll show them, lol.

Have fun

Please in future put a minimum of 100 feet between the crowd
There IS 100 feet between them in this video.Or something very close.
There are also about a dozen adults watching the kids.

I agree with all the safety concerns but this particular video is just not bad enough for the trouncing the poor kid and his Dad are getting.

You old timers just get scared when you see a kid do something you can't and panic.

Relax...There are LOTS of kids flying now and they aren't the ones crashing...That would be the unteachable old timers.

I hate seeing people fly at schools too...This is completely different.
This was a single flight that was planned ahead...Scheduled with the permission of the school...Overseen by the school authorities....Assisted by school teaching staff....The audience was well supervised...

It was not just some fence jumper throwing a heli around with no spotter and not caring who was coming or going.

This situation is NOT the typical school yard flyer.
Just how much planning and assistance do YOU have when you fly?
I literally never use the word literally right.

That is debatable. Really not the issue anyway. That heli as you know can travel a 100 feet in the blink of an eye. And really what could the adults have done if that heli cut loose. Nothing.. Well they could have attended to the injured.
I agree with all the safety concerns but this particular video is just not bad enough for the trouncing the poor kid and his Dad are getting.
Looks to me that he is getting lots of admiration. Its only the flying site is less then ideal, and could of been resolved very easy prior to flying.

I am no old timer. But would listen hard to them anyhow. With age is much wisdom.
Relax...There are LOTS of kids flying now and they aren't the ones crashing...That would be the unteachable old timers.
Crashing is one thing of concern, but I myself look to the possability of mechanical or electrical mishap.
I hate seeing people fly at schools too...This is completely different.

How do you know this? And you think every parent knew what type of heli he was going to fly?
You yourself said people think of them as toys, and I agree with you on that. If they knew just how dangerous the machine was spinning away in front of there kids, I think most would not have there kids sit in such a close un-protected proximity.
It was not just some fence jumper throwing a heli around with no spotter and not caring who was coming or going.
A fence jumper and the Ryan boy are no different when that heli is fired up. Again its the unforeseen danger and lack of adequate protection that is of concern.
This situation is NOT the typical school yard flyer.
Just how much planning and assistance do YOU have when you fly?
Its not difficult to add a buffer between the spectators and heli.
A simple fence, school backstop, brick wall, some type of protection.
You see such barriers in auto races, sports events, etc. Its just good practice. I think Ryan did a superb job with that heli, I am not harping on him, and dont think others are either. Maybe next time some added prtection will be put in place for the less informed that are there to watch him put on a show and fly that thing so damn good.

I have used my two cents all up, Im out..
Its all earth!

My suggestion to all the concerned people:
Stay out of this. You've offered your suggestions. If you stay and argue, they'll just drag you in the mud and belittle your concerns.

Mckrackin, there's one thing I think you might want to consider. I know it's a touchy subject involving a dad and his son and all... but that shouldn't stop people from expressing their concern. And the anti-safety clan should not lash out at them (as they did) and the concerned people shouldn't bother to get caught up in the argument (which they did). I pick on you because you seem to be being the most insulting. Why insult concerned people? To try to make them not care anymore?

My opinion on the video...not sure. Borderline? I wasn't there so hard to say. It did give me an uneasy feeling though so it very well may be worth having a flag raised. I probably wouldn't have raised that flag...but that's because I'm a bit of a coward.

Mr. McKrackin,

I just came back from a fun fly where there were ZERO crashes by "old timers" as you mentioned in your previous comment however I did see quite a few crashes by the younger generation. If it wasn't for the "old timers", this hobby wouldn't exist. Additionally, if it weren't for all the (cheater) gyros, most of you younger folks would have gone home by now claiming it's too much work to fly an R/C helicopter.

Enjoy

I bet he won, how many other kids brought a 3000$+ toy for show and tell.
No kidding. A so-called "talent" show judged by other little kids who think a large R/C heli is one of the coolest things they've ever seen? Neato toys (aka MONEY), not talent, won that "talent" show.

I don't disagree with safety concerns.
I am not anti safety...Quite the opposite if you check my history.

I have made no insults or made any personal comments...Not to a single person.

I use the term old timer as an old timer myself...Not as an insult.

I simply don't see this video as being all that dangerous...literally childs play compared to the majority of videos posted here.

A better site may have been beneficial...That was said...it was said again...and again....and again....and again.
It was addressed....All I said is move along...All concerns were read and duly noted.

Now Bob...if you want to pick on someone for being insulting, look at comments like the one I quoted here.

Or maybe comments accusing people of spouting nonsense or not being able to use their head...Knuckleheads is the word that was used,I do believe.

Lots of insults here...just not from me.
