Really?
Let's just make the world out of Nerf and elect Obama to a third term. Folks get over it. If these machines are so dangerous, then we shouldn't be flying them at all. Let's stop taking any kind of risk. Clearly that is the spirit the U.S. was founded on.

Guys! This is is not about Ryan's flying skill or how safe he flys. I agree he has amazing flying ability for any age flyer. This is simply the setting was not safe as it could have been. Just do the demo at the baseball field! The kids would have seen the same amazing demo/school project from Ryan. But we also have to look at the "what if's" that is what keeps us all safe and lawers away!

I've been in RC helicopters 34 years I've seen just about everything. Have you ever seen a 700 size copter throw a blade? It will explode so fast you won't see a thing except parts everywhere! I also have a good friend that lost an eye to his copter throwing a tail blade. These things are dangerous and bad things happen to good people everyday!

Guys just keep out hobby safe so you can experience it for 34 years! Rember If we didn't have LAWERS we wouldn't need LAWERS!

Europe is miles ahead of us on safety. The US is quite lax. Not nearly as lax as some 3rd world countries though.

Anyway, great flight! Accept a little constructive criticism. It doesn't hurt that much and is meant to keep the lawyers and politicians out of it. Self governance is best.

Well we made our clean break from Europe a few hundred years ago. People need to realize that what you perceive as safety is often just the illusion of safety. Look at much of the regulatory laws in this country. Didn't keep the gulf oil disaster or the West Texas explosion from happening.
As long as people exist and convert oxygen into carbon dioxide, they will be doing so forever at their own risk.

Had YOUR 1st grader their / Your Son or Daughter / and KNOWING their was a !st grader flying it - for a out of the box demo

Would you not - NOT be their to protect him with your wisdom ??

Or would you just let them - knowing ??? and go about your day ???

YES IT MOST CERTAINLY IS!
It was posted by a proud father.

If you want to preach and rant and cry out from your soap box...Start your own thread.

There is nothing wrong with talking safety...This is not the proper setting to do so.
You're just trash talking a mans parenting skills and abusing a first grader.

Move along.

This is a place for all to chime in. Some may not see a potential problem until it is to late. Constructive criticism, not trash talk at all. And certainly not preaching. Just pointing out what maybe should be addressed next time.

This is your past post McKrackin.
The news show and the article explain it pretty good every time they say "toy helicopter".

That is how the majority of all people not in the hobby see them.
They don't understand that they don't fly themselves until you want it to go somewhere else.
They don't understand that the blades are like Tiger Woods swinging a sword at you...about three times as fast as even he can swing.lol...

They're just toys...What could possibly happen?
Its all earth!

McKrackin,, here is something you can lean now (hopefully you will)>, the young may be smarter than the old, but the old will always be wiser than the young

if you can't understand that now, hopefully you will later in life

*Safety first people especially when children are involved*

The flying by Ryan was great, the setting was not thought all the way through by either the school staff or the parents in my opinion and I think I speak from a little bit of experience. I performed on a international level for 20 years as a professional R/C helicopter pilot without anyone getting injured. This was only done because of the safety precautions we took with strict crowd control, open flying sites so if something mechanical or electronic (which it does on occasion) did fail I had an escape plan to ditch the helicopter. (I called it a plan B) The only risks I ever took was to myself with certain stunts I performed to excite the crowd. I lost count on the number of people I have seen injured by R/C helicopters over the years with all my travels and they can be very dangerous to say the least.

Please in the future put a minimum of 100 feet between the crowd and the helicopter and a minimum of 25 feet between the pilot and the helicopter especially when a small child is flying a 700 class electric helicopter. If you have a question regarding a public demonstration of a radio control helicopter please contact the AMA or IRCHA and find out what the guidelines are just to be on the safe side.

Have a great day everyone,

Robert

Scary
I also think he is a great little flyer. But what if something should go wrong. Other kids parents and teachers who know nothing about the dangers of those blades think its cool. Until wham boom some one gets injured then its all over the news then when i fly at my local park parents would yell at me saying dont fly here and call the cops. Just my two cents.

Really nice flying! No doubt.

Unfortunately I would have to agree with the safety issue. I know if my kid were in that audience and I was not informed and given the chance to make the decision regarding MY own childs safety I would be really pissed. Just too many what if's with these things.

Wow! Now that was really cool.
Listening to all the kids going crazy was so nice... really put a smile on my face.

Trod1965: Your kid is doing great, mate. I do hope he is really enjoying the hobby and not just sending you broke to pass the time. (J/K).

Anyway, thanks for posting that.... absolutely made my day!
