Now surf new Classifieds independently of new Regular posts.

The ideal way to read through new posts is to start on the home page.

Then click either "NewR" or "NewC"...

Then continue clicking the yellow More button...

You finish on the home page with all marked read.

NewR = Regular Posts
NewC = Classified Posts

Sounds Interesting... But I think I am confused.

So, let me see if I got this right...

The buttons have 2 functions depending on the "Read" being checked or not.

If read is not checked then you go to new posts in that sub. If read is checked then you make/reset the new posts as read.

Is that correct?

iKon, because I am connected to my heli, are you?

If the buttons are to reset reads on Subs, Regular and Classified posts why not label the button as such instead of Home, New1 and New2?

The buttons are for what you want to read next. If [X] Read is checked, then the current screen you are viewing will be marked read.

Yeah, I understand that by having the read tickbox checked - the screen you're LEAVING is marked as read. However, the button labels make no sense whatsoever to me. *confused*.

Button labels now relate to dual post counts on the RR home screen. The button labels are constrained by space, and especially, longer term visual simplicity.

Mark,
This change seems way more complicated then need be. It's confusing to say the least. And, having the "Read" checked be default is dangerous.

Why couldn't it simply be one button that marks all threads in the current view as read? Whatever you may be looking at be it subs, regular, or classifieds is marked as read.

The buttons light up yellow once you reach the last post in the current view. It's seems simple to me to just keep clicking the yellow buttons. If you just want to read New1 or New2 just keep clicking the one you want.

One button is fine but this is about moving forward to the next view marking read in the process. The big deal, is that this change, allows you to surf classifieds independently of regular posts.

I am all ears on improving the presentation. This is a work in progress. Button names can easily be changed. The functionality is bitchin.

Thanks for the feedback.

I don't get it, I think I'm using RR wrong
I start at the home page, look to the right to see if any of the topics I am subscribed to have been posted in, then go to other topics such as main discussion, off topics, classifieds or whatever.
What am I missing here?

I think I have it figured out.

The expectation is to browse through rr in a pretty explicit way.

What made it click for me is the new1 and new2 headers on the forum list page. New1 actually means "new posts that aren't classifieds". New2 actually means "classifieds".

So, here's how I browse.

1) click start here. Usually this means I'm on my subscriptions list. I read through any subscriptions, clicking my back button when appropriate to get back to the same page.

2) once I'm done with subscriptions, the new1 or new2 button is highlighted yellow, indicating new posts. If I click new1, I go to a list of new posts. Same with new2' but they're classifieds.

IMPORTANT: this pages posts are marked as read at this point. So if I'm on the new1 page and click new2, then all of the new1 posts are cleared.

3) I read through page by page the new posts that interest me. When I get to the last page, the 3 buttons are available - again, one is yellow to indicate new posts.

It's quite hard to explain. I guess you could think of the three buttons as customised searches split between the forum list, new standard posts and classified posts.

I hope I got that right, someone feel free to tell me otherwise.

In a mad world, only the mad are sane.

This was the case for logged out users. I just fixed the bug.

It finally clicked for me, too. Still seems a bit much.

Indeed, it does. It marks posts read that you haven't seen listed. Under this scheme, perhaps only pages of the list you actually view should be marked read. Having the read marked by default makes it tricky from a user standpoint.
