I have several Raptor 60/90s. I also have a couple PV0327 carbon base plates. How important is this plate? It would be handy to leave it off if it's not taking any stiffness out of the airframe. It would save a little weight and make some maintenance more convenient.

They weight savings is imaginary. It is so light it doesn't matter.

The cost saving is substantial. At $40, replacing one after a crash is a big part of the repair bill.

I always flew with one, so I can't answer the question of "does it work".

I do know that all heli from 600 up use the same type of base plate.

As for maintenance, the newer design has an "engine shaped" opening below the engine - it looks like you could unbolt the engine mounts and slide the engine out without removing the landing struts and base plate.
The reality is, that you also have to remove the header / pipe to get the engine out through the cutout.
I just got into the habit of "step 1 - remove landing struts and base plate, step 2 - everything / anything else".

the original 60 never had the base plate
but when i've crashed my 90 without the plate on i've broken the front
plastic fan case were the skids bolt on
with the base plate on i've never broken the part

so yes it will fly without the base plate

I've never crashed without the baseplate.
And most of the time I break off the skid mounting tabs on the front frame / fan shroud.
The last time, I broke the front & the back frame.

I don't know if it hurts or helps.
But, it is $40 to replace.

The $40 isn't the question. I am fortunate to not be a frequent crasher and I have several of the carbon plates already on hand. What I'm looking for is whether it provides structural support in flight, maybe reduces vibrations, that sort of thing.
