I went for my first flight of the day. Towards the end of the flight I went into normal which I usually just auto in, and it stayed in IDLE-1 on my 18MZ. That's right, Switch E was in NORMAL and the screen showed IDLE-1.

Seems like maybe a bad switch. Keep us in informed.

You cannot legalize morality. It's internal not external. You either have it or you don't.

Have you tried swapping a switch from a different location into that switches position?

Send it back unless you don't want to be without it for sometime otherwise try to change it out yourself.

At the moment, the radio is booting up in Idle up-1 with the switch in the normal position. I'll completely remove the switch and see if it still boots up in Idle up-1, if it does, it's not the switch.

This is just an assumption not knowing the internal programming. But be aware that just removing the switch may not correctly test the circuit.
For example if it is a 3 position on-off-on switch that is on (pin a to pin b) -off (no connection)-on (pin B to Pin C). Putting pin a from a high state to a low state gives normal, having pin a and pin B both high gives idle 1 and having pin a high and pin c low gives idle 2. Then removing the switch would allow pin a and c to be high and default you to Idle 1.

I see what your saying Ed. I really do hope it's only a switch. For some reason I don't think it is because as you see in the video it changed flight modes without even touching the switch.

Can't you reasign the flight mode to another switch for now just to test it?

The radio should be beeping during the boot if it truly is coming up in Idle-1 mode.
Is the radio asking for verification while booting?

Yes you can and yes you should.

Does it also do it if other models are selected?

Switching to Condition "Hold" should override the Idle-1 setting if the radio is set up properly.

Yes Ray, the radio is beeping upon booting letting me know that I'm in Idle up-1.
Does it also do it if other models are selected?
Yes, it happens with all models.

The HOLD is working properly and overriding the Idle up as it should.

When I get home from work in a little bit I'm going to reassign Idle up and reboot to see if the verification comes up.

My radio is setup as follows

Update
Ed is correct (of course ), by unplugging the switch it defaults to Idle up-1. So it seems like if the switch does not make proper contact with the pins it goes to Idle-up 1. Not a good fail safe that's for sure. I'm trying to cause it to fail so I can reassign it to be sure it's the switch but it's working properly at the moment. I still want to call Futaba and see if they can send me a switch instead of shipping it out if I don't have to.

I would still reassign the normal, idle 1 and idle 2 functions to another 3 position switch. If it works then I would then move tat switch to the bad switches position to check the circuit from the switch to the board.

Good luck.

UPDATE
Futaba was unable to recreate the problem but thanks to the video I shot they were able to determine to change the switch and the cable to the board. Radio was repaired and sent out the next day.
