Hi,

I'm trying to get back to the hobby after a few years absence.

I have a Raptor 50 and the original TRex 450 (with the seesaw rather than CCPM). I never really got past the learning stage - I could hover and do some basic forward flight.

I used to know loads about setup but after 5 years I seem to have forgotten it or at least lost my confidence. I've also changed my transmitter to 2.4GHz so I have to set up all the servo throws again.

The linkages and geometry should still be okay from last time.

Want to start with the TRex first

Can you recommend any links which describes setup.

Think of things along the lines of

Throws and directions of cyclic
Setting the collective
Setting up the tail (direction, throws) in paricular with a heading hold which I remember confuses me because it doesn't necessarily always return the servo to neutral at rest.
Pitch and throttle curves
Recommend rates etc

Also is there a good recommendation of how to configure the switches on a Futaba F8G. I appreciate that you can assign them however you want but I'm thinking of a recommendation for a good place to start.

Where best to put rates, idle switch, throttle hold, throttle cut, gyro switch etc.

Cheers,

Nigel

Hi,

I have probably exagerated how much I have forgotten.

I used to know all this stuff very well. I probably still do in the back of my mind, I just lack the confidence to turn my TRex on in the garden until I'm sure.

The mechanical geometry will be spot on - it was before. Will just need to adjust the ATVs.

First thing to check my understanding

Look from behind the tail, the swash will move in the same direction as the stick - is that right?

Now the tail. Again looking from behind, if I move the stick right should the tail rotor slider move to the right?

Now tail roter rest postion. Am I right that using an AVCS gyro this is not fixed, it is just left where the gyro last needed it to be to hold the heading. With a rate servo there should be a fixed neutral position but I haven't managed to get my gyro into rate mode yet.

For the radio, it's not about programming, just a bit bewildered which switch to assign to which function. I appreciate it is really down to personal choice but was asking whether there are any recommended layouts.

Not used to 3-position switches aswell.

For example on my old tx the rate swiches were fixed, labelled and 2 position. Now I can put them anywhere and have 3 positions not just rate on, rate off.

Cheers,

Nigel
