Hi all, After reading all your great builds that I thought it was about time I started one of my own. To be honest this is my very first build, but since the old days when I was serving in the Royal Air Force and working on this aircraft, I have always wanted to recreate it. The basic fuse is the super Puma from Helikopter-Baumann in Switzerland. A great fuse in its own right but I wanted to recreate the original HC1 therefore modifications are going to be required. The great day arrived when I received that gigantic box from my parcel force depot, that just would not fit in my car!! Oh no what am I going to do. Strap it to the roof I thought and so it materialised in my den. The first night I just just wanted to sleep in my den and stare at it. When I made the first cut I actually had a tear in my eye. Since then I have made a few cuts as certain panels need to be removed as do the main retract wells. the HC1 has twin main wheels instead of the single on the super puma. The nose section has been removed again for modification. I will update as the build continues.

Thanks
Allan

Good to see a build on a less popular subject. Keep us posted

I don't always fly helis, but when I do I prefer to fly scale.

I built a Bauman Super Puma about 8 years back .. Flew it at the US NAts in 2005 .. Nice flying Helicopter .. Enjoying your build! One question though .. why did you cut off the upper sponson fairing (The area just above the landing gear sponson)?

Dr Tim,

That feature is not found on the machines operated by the RAF and the OP is building an RAF machine, as per the ones he used to work with.

Head and Blades
Allan, I have an "OF" 4 bladed head and a set of 4 RH blades for that model
It may be a long way of, and you may decide to go with 2 bladed head, to start with
Will you be going to The Meeting of Rotary Eagles, at the Gaer Model Flying Club next month

Welcome to the scale crew, it's like heli heroin and there's no return... Cool looking heli, I'll be following this build, as I really like the Puma. After all of that surgery, you're going to have to change your RR name to DrWestland...

Many thanks for all your comments guys. On the upper Sponson fairings, I removed these as the RAF Puma HC1 came out long before the super puma. The undercarriage on mains is twin wheel as per the front leg so again mods to the undersides of the Sponsons have also to be made. I loved your puma Dr Tim, have it on my IRCHA DvDs. The final crack was following Dennis Strettons build in the MHW mag some years ago and have been salivating ever since. The wood that came in the kit is light weight and geared for the Baumann top mount electrics so I need to make up some frames for my Vario which I already fly with an electric conversion. Will udate with some more pics as I go on.

Hi Peter, unfortunately not as I have a lot of work commitments plus the ball and chain has me extending the kitchen. I intend to go 4 blade head and the Baumann 5 blade tail. In preparation I am trying to get my Helicommand HC3SX to work with 2 blade and flybar but I must be missing something as I cannot get it to setup despite online help. Everyone says its easy so I must be stupid. Unfortunately members at my club all went the beastx route but it doesn't support 4 servo op.

doesn't support 4 servo op.
For future reference, you can use a Helitronix mixer, will take you from 4 servo CCPM, back to standard flybar set up
I thought the Heli command rigid was the one for scale heli's
I believe Dennis Stratton was flying his Puma multiblade without a stabilisation unit, until the Heli command came in that is
