My grandson may want to tag along. He doesn't have AMA. Would it be okay for him to fly my nano or 130X?

Didn't take many photos this time around, and Greg and I left fairly early, but we had a fun, relaxing time. Thanks to all who put in the time and effort for this event!

Empty field, a couple of friends = all the flying one could possibly ask for.

I was one of the last ones to leave last night. Had a great day. Many people did begin to leave rather early Saturday afternoon. Everyone was gone before dark. In past years I have stayed the Saturday night in a hotel only to have the field to myself on Sunday.

Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.

Tough field to fly at before 11AM. Years that I have gone it's mostly a Friday afternoon, Saturday event. But always a good one.

To everyone wondering about Sunday. Sunday has always been kind of a wind down day. Some people hang around for it but most tend to leave Saturday night. (at least as since I've been a part of the event for the last 3 years)

We've always advertised it as being fri-sat-sun and never really had this issue come up before. As such I apologize for this and will make sure that we are more clear about this fact next year.

I honestly didn't understand what happened this year. I've been going since at least '07 and it has always been real busy from about noon friday until well after dark on saturday and a few hangers on still there sunday.
I heard only 3 signed in friday this year. I think it was about 20 on friday last year. I know we had about 15 show up to dinner at Scotty's Brew Pub and 10 or so followed dinner with a few drinks at the Neon Cactus.
Me and my buddy Sean were the last to roll out of the field about 7:30 saturday night. That would have been unheard of in years past.
I know there are a handful of regular attendees that didn't make it this year for a variety of reasons but I don't understand the poor attendance and the early exodus. Maybe some of those that bailed out early can let the host club know if there were issues that should be corrected on their end. I know promotion was really weak this year as there wasn't a local well known heli guy running/pushing the event. That still doesn't explain the early exodus. The music was rather tame and quiet so not much of a party atmosphere but weather was great albeit a bit windy and food was decent.
Sadly, I overheard one of the club members comment that he thought they did pretty good with 26 pilots, only 8 or so less that last year. At that rate, the Rumble will only be a memory in a year or two, if that long! I'd really hate to see the Rumble die as it has been my favorite event outside of IRCHA and OHB.

I was wondering how attendance would be this year. Both Ryan and I (basically the two main heli guys in the club) both have had a really busy year and have not been able to participate much.

I've got a newborn and have just had an unusually busy year so its kept me from all aspects of this hobby. Ryan has been trying to get his schooling finished so he's been pretty out of it as well.

I've done what I can to get the event advertised/promoted in the threads but it wasn't on the top of my list to do as you can imagine. If there is one thing wrong with our club it is TERRIBLE at promoting our events. Usually paper flyers are their method, not too many of them get online and really push the events in the forums.

Last year it was up to Ryan and I promote and procure donations for prizes and the raffles. It was not an easy task between just the two of us. By the way how were the prizes? I honestly have no idea if anyone in the club tried to get anything donated this year. I have a feeling that if they did it was too little to late to get much donated. If you don't start first thing in the year usually all the places have given out all they plan to donate pretty early.

I hope that next year I can give more time to organizing and promoting this event and get it back to where it was a couple years ago when we had 50+ pilots.

We are all witnessing a major decline in the hobby because it relies on excess cash and time, things this economy simply isnt offering many people. Gas is expensive, hotels are triple what they were three years ago, food has doubled, nitro has doubled. Hobby brands have slashed promotional team memberships and discounts. Buying lightly used far exceeds benefits of being a team member for discounts. Bachelors from a few years ago are now settling down, many families are struggling to prepare for tuition for their kids, and many are watching their retirements evaporate before their eyes. Insurance premiums from every aspect are skyrocketing. The world is changing around us, guys. Promoting the event more may have not made any difference. Dont be hard on the club. Flying helis and attending events is following the economy.

Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.

I was there for 6-7 hours on Saturday and it was busy. No matter how small this event gets I will always go great people and food! Friday the cactus was fun too. They had a live band and the piano man in the other room was hilarious!

I think part of the reason may just be because it's so close to the Jamboree this year; people are saving up their time and money for that. Greg wanted to get home at a decent time because he has helis to work on and get ready for IRCHA for their booth and it was kind of a last-minute decision for us to come anyway. I personally think it's harder and harder to choose which events to go to as well, since many of them end up falling on the same dates as each other, and we're having to pick and choose. But we enjoyed ourselves and the company we were in at the Heli Rumble....sometimes you just need the kind of fun flies that are laid back and relaxed with no agenda, no wild music or partying and the only thing is to have fun.

I'm relieved to hear that those who were there on Friday and Saturday still had a good time. I agree that timing has usually been an issue with a lot of people in years past. It seems our event does but up against several other major ones.

Times are also a good (or bad) factor, I can attest to that. Also I don't mean to be hard on the club at all, Everyone in it is great but promoting their events has always been one thing I've found lacking.

Either way it falls, Lets hope next year we can get some more pilots to attend and I'll make sure to emphasise that Friday and Saturday are the days to make it there with sunday not necessarily being part of the event.
