Yes, over head cam

When I searched for 106cc ohc engines the first page of results referenced a Yamaha motorcycle sold in India. Be interesting if it is a Yamaha engine.

I know there has been some discussion about the quality of the AC power which is created by these generators. Any opinions on the downside to using an inverter generator which produces dirty power? I can understand if you're trying to power a stage PA system or a HAM radio station in which case you might get a lot of "hum", but what about in our particular situation where we are running AC-to-DC power supplies connected to lipo chargers? I've got a couple of expensive MeanWell AC-to-DC converters. Will these actually suffer harm from a dirty AC input, or are the newer switching power supplies inherently designed to filter this out?

I was kind of under the impression that a switching power supply was fairly impervious to a noisy AC input.

I was under the impression that the plain non inverter generatior produced the dirty power, and that the inverter types were supposed to clean it up.

We use inverters in the full sized aircraft industry all the time for electronic power.

The inverter will clean your power....that being said....there are a lot of guys running a regular generator to power the supplies and other then the noise they seem to work just fine. Your power supply is converting the dirty AC to clean DC for the charger.

The meanwell can can handle voltage input from 90-300v. That just about covers the spikes from a regular generator from dirty power so no issues there
Quick...here comes my wife....hide that new Heli !!!!

Fuel shutoff - I don't see a separate shutoff valve. The instructions and labeling on the case seem to indicate that the throttle lever cuts off the fuel flow when in the OFF position. But this seems to kill ignition or airflow also since the engine stops running immediately. There is a drain screw at the bottom of the carb float bowl. and it's pretty easy to get to so you'll be able to drain the carb which should prevent it from gumming up. The fuel has to be pumped from the tank to the carb per their instructions and it makes sense since the carb is above the bottom of the tank. should be no fuel draining into the carb, but I haven't verified this.

The biggest issue I see with storing it is there is no easy way to remove the fuel from the fuel tank. Ryobi's instructions state to drain all the oil THEN flip the unit on it's side to drain the fuel tank. I'll probably plan on either using my gasser fuel pump to drain the unused fuel or just plan on my last use of the season to run it dry. This is what I do with my lawn mower and snow thrower.

hhmm, that unit could suffer from the fuel residue problems that some honda owners suffer from. It may be worth your while to install a separate fuel petcock between the pump output and the carb input. There's a video on the other thread for the honda mod.

I bought one of this units and so far I'm very happy with it, I tested the generator rigth next to the table where I had all my stuff and it was very quiet in ecomode, I have a 50ft power cable that I'll be using with this and I don't think I will even here it running at that distance.

I hope it does not have the plastic OHC that thier smaller weedeater engines employ...mine melted the exhaust cam one hot summer day on my 4 stroke weedeater...ended up having to make a new cam out of oil impreg bronze...

but for the price, under 700...thats hard to beat.
showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

3 year warranty is what finally sold me on it.

I'll bet I have well over 50 hrs on mine now. One other guy in our club bought one too. put the $600 back in my pocket and I'd buy it again.

Two things I would do different:
1. Immediately buy one of the cheap hour meters. I bought a green one from Amazon but it took a month to get here. Get one and put it on so you know how much run time you are using. This is true with any generator. They should just have an hour meter to start with.

2. Change the oil after the first hour or two. I waited until a few gallons of gas were burned it was too long. Oil was really dirty. I just used normal car oil. The manual recommends 10W/30 as I remember, go with what they recommend in the manual. The picture for changing the oil in the manual is a bit misleading. There is an updated manual on homedepot website. It's easy though. I did it on the front steps of my house so I could tip it easily and let it drain into the pan.

100% am happy with this purchase. It's the only way I can stand to fly big electric heli's!

In the pits at our last hydroplane race was one of these generators. They are HUGE compared to a 2000 Honda. I wanted one because it matches our team colors but after seeing and hearing it in person, unless I needed to try to save money, I probably don't choose it over a Honda. I'm running a little 1500 watt Lifan right now so I'm not a blind Honda follower although I wouldn't refuse if someone offered me a Honda .

It's a smart place to spend your generator dollar.

Would you buy a ryobi car, motorcycle, or outboard? Honda has a well earned reputation and the newcomers like ryobi need a proven track record before you can begin to compare it to Honda.
