field power personal experience - Ryobi RYi2200 generator
I just bought this Ryobi

Box opening

What is included in the box

I like green

sad included paper funnel. Decided against the female funnel

used my male oil funnel from the auto parts store

recommended oil volume nearly filled it to overflow

oil filled

spark plug access

If you overfill it this design will put the spill over the side.

huge capacitor

Where did you get it? Have you had a chance to try it out yet? Work well? Loud?

Argh, can't watch the video! It's 3-4 pounds heavier then Honda but rated at 200 more watts. Plus, has built in handle with wheels which I really like.Quick...here comes my wife....hide that new Heli !!!!

I just looked up the price and if it works as good as it looks then I think you have a winner.

Edit: I just saw the handle. I really like that. I hate carrying my Honda around.

I bought a used 2000 watt Ryobi generator for $350 bucks shipped from NY off ebay. Yes its bigger than the honda and a little bit louder. But for the cost difference I was able to buy more lipos and parts. It has been very reliable so far.

Oh the wheels on it I didnt think I would like it at first but sure beats the heck out of caring it.
Thanks, T.J.

Fixed the video links - they are marked as public now. Please let me know if you have any problems seeing them.

I think there is a difference between the Ryobi 2000 and the 2200. I haven't seen a Ryobi 2000 but did run across some reference to them in my research. The 2200 is a new model for this year as I understand it.

I wish it had another handle in the middle. I guess you always need to use 2 hands to lift it?

How much does it cost brand new?

oh ya yours is a newer model mine is this
http://reviews.homedepot.com/1999/2...ews/reviews.htm

The guy I bought mine from used it for cutting lumber. I could tell because when I cleaned it out there was a lot of sawdust on the inside. Besides it having some scratches and needing to be cleaned up it works great. Hope it works out for you.
Thanks, T.J.

My thoughts on the first run:

1. It seems quiet. Sitting in the driveway next to an open garage I could easily have had a conversation with someone standing next to me. I imagine it'll be quieter at the field in some grass and with an extension chord.

2. It seem to run a little rough. Not bad but you can tell it's a single cylinder engine on to of some rubber feet sitting on a pad of cement.

3. Took a few pulls to get some fuel into the system for the very first run. Once there was some fuel there it started right up. We'll see how easy it starts as I own it over time.

4. Filling the oil could turn into a mess if you are not careful. I managed to do that without spilling a drop.

5. The manual states it is rated and warranted to run with E10 fuel. It will not be warranted with E15 or greater concentrations of ethanol.

6. Putting the 500 watt worklight with my kill-a-watt in line shows it handled that load just fine. It would 'burp' every once in a will but did not get much louder. The meter did not show any fluctuation off 60 cycles and dropped voltage from the no load of 123V to 121V. Once I have a few hours of break-in on it I'll try running a higher load with a space heater and perhaps some other high loads, see where it shuts down at.

7. It cost $599 at Home Depot.

I don't have access to a Yamaha or Honda to compare to. One of the guys in our club has a Honda so next time I see him with it I'll see what they sound like next to each other.

one more thought - and this was important. When I put it away after the run I could not smell any fumes.

yes, having a single center handle would be convenient. The two handles on the side make it easy to lift and for lugging around there is the suite case wheel handle. probably won't work well in a gravel parking lot or uneven grass, we'll see.

Is Ryobi a Japanese company?

Certainly the motor inside is a different brand. Tecumseh or something maybe?

I don't know who makes the engine. I think it's an OHV engine though. I didn't see where the certificate of origin is, I'll see if I can find it. If I can find who makes the engine I'll let you know also.

Ah, it's listed as an OHC engine. I wonder how many manufactures out there have an engine with this spec

FWIW, 2200uF is not that big of a capacitor. 1 F caps are big!

Looks like a nice little generator. I have a few Ryobi lithium power tools and the quality is good, IMO. My brother-in-law who is a carpenter uses Ryobi tools a lot and he loves them for their durability vs cost.

I'd be interested to see how the support stacks up. I'd hate to have to go through Home Depot to get parts or service.
