Good fbl for 450
Ok so I'm buying a 450 pro dfc without the 3gx so I'm looking for a fbl unit. I would like something that can be programmed without a computer so I was looking at the ar7200bx, but I noticed you have to buy the cable to upgrade software on it.

And now with mini v being cheaper I was thinking of just getting one of those since I have a sat rx already, but the ikon is also the same price..

Anybody know which one tends to work best on a 450?

AR7200 will work great. You can also watch youtube videos on setup and see if there is one that looks easier to you. You really won't have to do the update on the 7200. It works just fine the way it is.

Well there are very few FBL systems that can be programmed without a computer, the only two that come to mind are the Beast X and futaba's CGY-750, there are some that can be programed with a small handheld programer that you must buy separately and those aren't that cheap either, FBL systems that can use a handheld programer include skookum, vbar, spartan vortex, gyrobot.    ▲

I didn't like the AR7200bx on my 450 DFC.

I went Mini Vbar and will never look back.

I have a thread on my tuning woes with the 7200bx. Before people get all defensive, the 7200bx did fly great with the old fbl Sport head. It just didn't seem to like the dfc head.

My experience with the BX. 3m tape cured a lot problems. But later on in certain conditions it would bobble. I could never find the sweet spot with that controller. Too loose or too tight.

I mounted a full size Vbar in my 450pro. Tight install but doable and clean.

Really there's only one that let's you tune the FBL system trom your radio as your flying and that's the HeliCommand (now called bavarianDEMON) with it's "Real Time Tuning" you can adjust any of the control parameters on the fly from the radio !    ▲

IDK if all functions are available to be adjusted from the radio, someone who knows more about the CGY will have to chime in on that.....

that sound cool but without setting the heli on the ground i don't see how you could make adjustments with the Android phone and still keep control of the heli mid flight......

Ahhhh....no.

With the VBar while flying, you can also

- use bank switching if you want to play with different setting in the air. You can have up to 4 completely different setups ( ie: every single parameter could be different in each of the 4 banks ). This can be controlled by a 2,3 or 4 position switch and uses a single extra channel.

- If you want to play with the tail gain specifically, you can tie a radio channel to the rudder gain directly and can control it by a slider or knob.

Personally, I don't want the ability to change cyclic gain adhoc in flight. That could end badly. Changing between several pre-programmed variations that I can select between in flight is what I am looking for and VBar provides.

If you need to tweak random items adhoc, then land, engage throttle hold, and use your smart phone to tweak any setting in the VBar you want.

What exactly does the HeliCommand/bavarianDEMON allow you to do from your radio?

V1.2 firmware with a CGY750 could be a challenge with a 450. V1.31 plugs and plays quite well.

I have been running CGY750s with the 1.3.x firmware on both a Beam E4 Advance and a Blade 450x. Pretty much plug and play on both of them and extremely stable flight characteristics. I had trouble with the tail on the Beam with 1.2.x firmware but since 1.3 came out it has been trouble free.

LOL bank switching is not even close to the same as being able to infinitely adjust any of the control parameters on the fly from the radio from it's min to it's max setting and anywhere in between with a turn of a dial AND you can always adjust the cyclic gain from it's min to it's max at the same time, not even close.......

So, Ahhhh....Yes
V1.31 plugs and plays quite well.
That's good to hear, i pretty much knew futaba would get it sorted out, it was just a mater of time.

Ok. So how the heck do you select and adjust all of these parameters from your radio while you are flying ?????? And how many radio channels does it need to do this?

you don't adjust all of them from the radio at the same time (even if you could who could remember which parameter was on what dial on the radio), you pick one parameter that you would like to adjust on the fly and assign it to the tail gyro channel dial and adjust it to were you like it and then move on to the next parameter and do the same BUT you do need a computer to change parameter assignment to the dial which i don't like....

definitely a different way to make adjustment for good or bad, but i really like it !
