Pipe
Just call Todd and tell him you want a "heli" pipe. I run the 6 inch silencer with the packing and it is not crazy loud. The packing has almost no effect on the power output, just absorbs the sound wave. I know that sounds impossible but expansion chamber exhaust systems are much different than mufflers or 4 stroke pipes.

You will have to make a bracket to attach it to the heli. Here it is installed on a Helibug

I'd hate to be the proud owner of a pipe like that after the heli smacks the dirt. I thought hatori mufflers invited damage due to their size. Good grief!!

How much is a pipe set as pictured, header, mounts, etc?

In a years worth of flying and crashing mine it has yet to be damaged. Being thin steel its much more durable than a typical alum muffler.
They sell for around $275 or more if you want them cersmic coated. I think Quickdraw sells the kit that you can weld up for about $140?

My QD has been through a few crashes, the steel body is extremely strong. IF it ever got damaged, it should be easy to repair.

My QD kit without silencer was around $120 plus shipping, I ordered extra springs with mine. You better be good at TIG welding, that .021" sheet metal is tricky. I ordered the first pipe already assembled so I could see how they trimmed and cut the sheet metal stampings and assembled it.

QD must know something, their kit is used by many of the top boat builders.

I really like how the QD fits on the heli. I have run it with a 4 1/2" silencer and a 6" silencer. The 6" is really good, seems quieter than a V2. The 4 1/2 was a little too loud for me.

I never felt a CG difference only a power difference lol.

You should have gasser tuning experience before considering a tuned pipe. There is a fine line between running perfect and running lean.

QuickDraw makes sheet metal kits that anyone can buy and weld, they also offer pipes welded.

The welder that had a complete Whiplash package, Don Shanks, is no longer in business. This must be what you heard.

You can still get a pipe direct from Quickdraw, call and ask for Todd.

altho I have 2 gassers my followers (< if that is what you want to call them) know I don't care for/and fly 700 size helis, but IMO that pipe is simply to much, a bit over board to get the performance someone may want.. if I had a 700 (what ever the brand) I would much rather go *OMG* on it to get that kind of performance, again that is if I had a 700Jim

Gearhead, I agree, a tuned pipe is not for everyone. But it is a proven way to get lots more power out of a 2 stroke engine.

I have two tuned pipes and a bunch of mufflers, I am not sure yet if the tuned pipes or mufflers will get the most flight time this year.

although the idea of a bolt one pipe that adds 2hp to a 4hp engine sounds like an awesome idea, I personnally stay away from tuned pipes considering all that has to be done to make them work properly...those pipes can be very touchy and sensitive...more so than a 10cc gas engine with a too big a carb... anything like temperature, pressure, tuning and RPM choice all make big differences on how a pipe works

....I would agree that its not for vast majority of gasser heli pilots...too many variables, and too easy to screw it all up...and some of these pipes are a bit porky and bulky ...probably negating some of the power gains I would think.
showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...
