Trex 450 pro ESC placement
Ok, I have read tons of articles and people are puting the ESC under the battery tray or on the side of the heli. I don't want mine under the battery tray because 50% of people swear it will over heat at one point or another. I also don't like it on the side because its tacky as hell. What is everyone's opinion on mounting it under the bottom plate or inside the frames? Please post pictures of your setups and give any advice please. Thanks.

I don't have pics but I had an ice50 esc mounted between the frames under the main gear.

If you are after the clean look, under the batt tray or main gear are really your only options. Right now I'm using a YGE60 under the batt tray, comes down barely warm (6s). What motor/esc are you using?

I'm using the stock motor and esc that come with the 450 pro v1. I will probably put it between the frames but my other option was under the bottom plate.

Is the motor the 430SP? If it is, then you'll probably want to keep the esc cool.

If its the 450m or 450mx, you'll have no trouble with the esc under the batt tray. I ran 3s for a long time with the align esc under there. It got pretty warm but never shutdown even in summer.

3s= 3 cell 2100-2200mah
6s= 6 cell 1200- 1300mah

Are you using the 430SP?

6s had lower mah rating then a 3s? I'm flying the 450m. I will upgrade to a better motor later.

Yes, the current draw is less with higher voltage for a given amount of watts.

Your esc will be fine under the batt tray with the 450m.

I'm going to put the esc on the blade grips. It will get good air flow there.

The manual recommends underneath the battery tray, but you wont go wrong placing on the side of the frame either.

Also, with a 3s and such a low current, the ESC will be fine under the battery tray. I have many flights with such a set-up and no problems here.
