Apology accepted. Let's move on

I agree the manual needs "help." Take my word for it, this is how the MA field pilots are tensioning their belts. This is how they did mine at HOD and when I spoke with my friends about it their words were (paraphrasing) - hang it by the tail and tighten the boom.

I started a new thread, not to highjack this one, regarding the belt failure vs other brands:

I like the holding it by the tail idea.
Sounds like a reasonable approach.

Though someone is bound to ask... is this valid with 10S or 6S??
Just kidding...

I've always tightened mine to when I push on the belt, at either end close to the boom, I can only push it approximately 1/2 way.

I'm pretty sure it was looser than that before the failure.

I just checked my belt. I did the tension this weekend. I used two 6s 3300 GA packs. The belt moves approximately ~3mm down (towards the returning loop of the belt) when I push on it with the eraser end of a pencil just in front of the tension pulley.

Hard to explain, hope this helps.

Doesn't work with nitro, you'll have to use batteries, at least 10S.

Is there any correlation between headspeed and belt failure?

Just wondering...
does anybody just replace their belts for the sake of replacing them?
Even if they do not look to worn?

I don't. I give my helicopters a "good" once over each day before flying. This includes inspecting the belt. If I see the fibers are fraying, I will replace belt. Both times mine failed, they looked fine before hand. I think, in retrospect, I had them way too tight before.Compass 7HV, Trex 550E
