I flew mine on Saturday after having not flown it since last year.

The engine was tuned very rich as it had been tuned in colder weather so it took a bit to lean it out just enough. It's still rich but I'm so paranoid about going lean that I don't mind erring pretty far into the rich side.

I tried some Revolution FBL blades (710s) and although they do feel a little heavier there's really not too much difference to the MAHs I usually fly with on the Dyna-X.

I think I need to up the rpm on the revlock a bit and go back and look at the max torque figures for the OS91SZ and then put the gov maybe 100 rpm above that. One little niggle is the fan shroud is vibrating and buzzing against the frame when it's idling, it stops when the engine revs a bit but it's annoying and needs some strategically placed foam or something.

Anyway, I don't want to hijack the thread But this is probably the only Dyna-X discussion happening on the planet these days!

New test flight imminent
Hi Trillian (nice pic)
Well the weather here in the UK is looking relatively hopful and an incentive to getting the Milli's back in the air?

Anyway - apologies for the delay - but I can report that Im quite close now to getting the Milli ready for "another" test flight - this time "I hope" without any nasty surprises?? Marcus's clutch has been refitted (carefully) and dial indicated as best as I can manage - but that process seems a bit of a dark art to me?

Further updates to come -

All Milli users/sympathizers Please feel free to post here as you like - its fine by me.

Bill

I thought some more about the problems we all had back when the milli 3 was the newest thing. I did remember replacing the clutch liner with one from a raptor 60. The gap was too large and it cracked the flex part of the clutch. it hapened twice before I realized the reason. I was a rep then and used to fly my Robbes almost every day. Ten years ago seems so far away now. TimT

Clutch gap tollerance
Yeh - Tim
One thing is absolutely certain - the gap between the clutch and the liner is most definitely a key thing to get just right - to tight and it binds and spins the blades at idle speeds and preventing this by hanging on to the blades either stalls the engine or overheats the clutch, but to much of a gap and the clutch will most likely break. Ive been into Nitro for quite a while and have had several clutch breakages on other heli's due to this issue. The correct gap is a very fine tolerance.

I had to set mine up tight enough to have some drag. It used to take quite a few flights for it to ease. If it didn't drag enough I knew the clutch wouldn't last long. When set tight enough it was forever repaired. I still have several Robbe machines.Even a NIB Cuatro. Good to see some of you folks still enjoy them. TimT

What is your Max blade pitch setting?
Hi all

Just a very simple question that I hope a few of you can advise me on - but what is your Max blade pitch setting you are using on the Milli? - Currently I am using close on 10,Deg - Im just not sure if the head allows much more than that?

I usually just setup +/- 10 degrees because a .91 engine running 710mm blades isn't going to handle much more than that anyway. If more pitch is available I'll use it on the hold pitch curve but generally keep my idle-1 at 10 degrees.

I always go for the max cyclic pitch the swash will give (making sure nothing binds).
