Yeah mine is just as quiet..Also like you said a few post back---> I bought mine for field use and thats really it..Im not at all saying its a better gen but for what I bought it for,the price is awesome and I won't ever need anything else...People will like what they have but when it comes down to it,any of these gens will be more than enough for field use...Just glad this thread was started because I learned alot from you .
Its a 1600W/2000W max and thats where I would of really screwed up this gen..I (for some reason) thought I would max it out the whole time at 2000W lol...

I agree yours seems just as quiet and at the price you paid its a great deal without a doubt. Clearly handles icharger at full tilt with no issues and thats all we need for field use. I appreciate you saying you learned alot from me, but I did from you and others as well.

A couple places say the Subaru is discontinued. Also some pretty scathing comments about lack of warranty support.

Charging at full tilt with an iCharger 3010b is easy for nearly any generator, but the generators are sifted clearly when using two iCharger 3010b's or an iCharger 4010Duo at full tilt. A lot of guys are using dual power lab 8 charging stations as well. Even the Honda 2000 can't keep up with a single 4010Duo, but I have that covered already. I mention this because I believe the trend will soon be fewer costly battery packs with high c-rate charging capabilities, brutal chargers, and a need to feed big power supplies heavily for 10-15 minute bursts.Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.

Yamaha EF2000iS 2,000 Watt 79cc OHV 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator (CARB Compliant)

4 hours of use and 4 months in shop, October 26, 2012

Didn't mind paying the extra money for what I thought was a decent generator. WRONG!!! It lasted for only one tank of gas and then refused to start again. It has been in the shop for FOUR MONTHS. Repair parts are coming very, very slowly. The issue is a bent valve... what could have caused that? Believe it or not we are now waiting for a head gasket. Who would not know what parts are needed for certain repairs? On top of that, their customer service guy Tye is non-reponsive, lazy and disinterested.
Run away from ever buying any of their products!!!

Tyler, you hit the nail. My sentiments exactly.

One question though,
When Using a power supply (http://www.skyrc.com/index.php?route...product_id=128) to power the charger (http://www.revolectrix.com/pl8_description_tab.htm), is it necessary to use an "inverter" gen? Or will a high power "regular" gen do the job without harming the Power supply?
We have a 3500 watt "regular" gen at the field. Wondering if I need to invest in an "inverter" gen or not. I would prefer the latter if safe.

Thanks

shawnlh,

I am afraid I will have to allow someone else to answer that question. I simply don't know. Considering I can use my Honda for my computers and electronics if needed I decided to go clean power.

Your power supply is actually regulating your voltage to your charger....mine is at 26 volts. It doesn't matter if your generator is putting out 110/120 volts it is still being stepped down from the power supply.Quick...here comes my wife....hide that new Heli !!!!

Wow ace took you what 3 days to come up with that? Notice how Hondas on amazon don't have ANY customer ratings? Want to know why? Because last time they did they had 2 1/2 stars. Could give you a laundry list of bad reviews had they not taken them down. Constantly clogged carbs, stuck valves, oil leaks, plastic parts failing, in the shop more than being used etc. Yamaha has reviews and 4 1/2 to 5 stars anywhere you look. Of course you will find here and there bad one if you spend days digging but that's with anything.

I mentioned earlier, throwing up one review you find on the internet means absolutely NOTHING. Go appliance shopping. Look at reviews. You will have a hard time buying anything because those review on all appliances are horrifying.Wolves don't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep

I think it depends on your power supply. Some may be able to handle the 'dirty' power just fine, others may smoke.

Does make me wonder if there is an inexpensive way to put a filter/cleanup between a job site type generator and our power supplies.

Honda still number 1# seller here, and great reviews. Also both are rated recreational.

Here is a snippit of the review the expert (Jim Baugher) of that site had to say about the Yamaha 2000.
There is a third party that tests generator engines for engine life. Yamaha is the only inverter generator we offer on our site that is rated as "extended" with a 500 hour engine life. All others are rated at 250 or even 125 hours. This engine life rating does not mean the engine will stop running at 500 hours but more that the engine seals and parts will start to show their age. Yes, that means that this independent lab testing group found the engine life on this Yamaha was twice as long as it's competitors.

This is just another reason why this inverter earns the best spot.

Stang, are you telling us that Amazon tampers with the Honda reviews because there were too many negative reviews? Amazon has tampered with the customer reviews?
