I recently moved my heli workshop to the Conservatory, just wondering if cold temperatures like 5 degrees celcius is bad for life and nimh batteries over a period of time,i did do research and the only battery that may get problems is lipo batteries which dont like the cold.

I have found that cold weather causes NiMH packs to temporarily lose capacity. Once warmed back up, they go back to normal.

We fly in cold weather all winter long, the trick is to keep your packs warm when not in use.

As far as my research and experience has shown, cold weather storage is not bad for batteries (except old lead-acid, if they are deeply discharged and freeze, but I doubt that's your concern).

When cold, they loose their ability to give up their stored power quickly or fully. So functionally you want warm batteries. Storing cold may actually be good for Lipos; not sure about NiMH, but won't hurt them.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.
