Well just bought the upgraded OWB and hub from align which was supposed to stop the auto gear locking up but it locks up still. I pulled it the cage and needle bearings are good I lubed it with tri-flow got 1 flight then it locked up again every flight WtF? is this known with this NEW part? And i know about using ATF so we can ditch that.

yep, read my post father on down the list. the answer to this is to get the boca bearing one and supposedly all of your troubles will be over.

Just had the same problem.

Fitted a new type hub along with a new YS60 a couple of days ago and the hub has locked up solid after only seven flights.
Can't rotate or release it at all.

Is the solution really a different OWB?
Any more info?

I've just ordered a new set to try as my new one here is scrap.
This is not going to work then?
Wonder what the answer is?

Are you guys still ordering the Align one...if you are your wasting your time. Get the Boca bearings one. That is supposed to be the answer on this issue.

The OWB locks up because the inner sleeve is wearing / undersized.
The OWB is probably okay.

When the inner sleeve is too small (from wear or manufacturing), the pin bearings on the OWB will extend too far when they engage - kind of like (but not exactly) like they are "over center".
When the pin bearings extend to far to fit an undersized inner sleeve, they will not retract - they "lock".

I used a digital micrometer to check the inner sleeve on my OWB setup, and the one that is locking up is 12.03mm. The one that does not lock up is 12.035.

I didn't lube the bearing with magic sauce or something special.

I just changed the inner sleeve to one that was 0.005 bigger in diameter. I had to look at 2 or 3 sleeves to find one that was just a fraction bigger than the rest.

We saw this a lot on the Raptor 90.

The key is to get better / harder material for the inner sleeve - that will eliminate the chatter marks and wear.
If you get rid of the wear, then the OWB will not "lock up"

Just managed to the free the old shaft from the OWB using a hammer.

The inner shaft I have here measures 11.98mm.

Does anyone do a inner shaft upgrade?

You can get a new one from the LHS.
It is packaged by itself - $5 I think.

Lets say i wanted to change the one way bearing in the NEW hub. someone give me a link to it as its a different size bearing then the original hub. Dont want to get the wrong one. Think im gonna swap it out as i wanna run the new auto gear which you are unable to do with the old style.

The oneway bearing is the same size as the old oneway..It looks bigger because the hub has a shielded bearing in it also..

After full dis-assembly BladeStrikes is CORRECT same size one way as the original "old" one. Question is are they the SAME OWB's as the old one. If they are this will not fix the problem of swapping them. I have swapped it out with a old from my old style hub. I will test fly and report back. If this isnt the issue of the bearing then its the NEW added regular bearing they have added on top of the OWB that is causing all this. My next step will be to put the regular bearing on the bottom and OWB on top. Hopefully one of these steps will fix the issue as the phasing out the old style auto gears to make room for the new ones meaning we in the future WILL HAVE to use the new style hub.
