Looking to build my first Logo. Decided to go with the 500SE. New to e-helis so can use some advice here. Looking to set it up for general sport flying and mild 3D like flips, rolls, etc.. Not into hard core 3D yet.

What do I need? Motor, pinion suggestions?
I'd like to stay with Futaba servos, which ones?
Which FBL system? Also, new to FBL...

Any other advise?

Thanks!!!

I think when Mikado and Ready Heli put the combo linked below together, they had you in mind

Comes with 500SE mechanics, Edge main and tail blades, Jive ESC, Scorpion motor, correct pinion (14T) for the type of flying you described, FBL rotor head, and V-Bar FBL system (nothing else should go on a Mikado don't ya know ).

http://www.readyheli.com/MIK2255-Mi...es_p_40346.html

Just add servos and 6S 5000mah battery, and you've got a VERY nice and well matched set-up.

V-Bar is not hard to set-up, but there IS a learning curve with ANY FBL system if you've never done FBL before. Don't sweat it though, the software leads you through the set-up step-by-step. Lots of advise here and in the V-Bar section as well.

Welcome to the world of Mikado

My flying style is very much as you describe, sport and mild 3D - you know, bit of inverted, loops, rolls, funnels, backwards etc...

I have over the years owned many different helicopters, but about 6 months ago sold everything to raise funds for my 500se swinging 603mm blades on a single 6s pack.

This is now the only heli I own, it gets flown whenever the weather is good enough, and I wouldn't swap it for any other heli, it is PERFECT.

Only change i recommend from the package deal linked by dahld is the V-Bar. That package comes with the mini-Vbar. I would recommend the full size Vbar instead. The separated sensor and the ability to use the full size on nitro with governor are my primary reasons for this. The mini-Vbar will work just fine on electric models though.

The Futaba BLS HV255 for cyclic and BLS HV256 for tail are good servo choices in the Futaba brand.

Contact Ready Heli, they are great to work with and I'm sure they will allow you to upgrade the mini VBAR to a full-size VBAR for a reasonable fee.

Thank you for all the replies and feedback so far. The combo version is out of stock so I ordered the 500SE so far and will order the recommended components separately. I am putting together a "build package".

So far I have:

MIK4349 Scorpion HKIII 4025-1100 (Logo 500) (5mm Shaft)

MIK4214 Mikado 14 Tooth Herringbone Pinion, M0.7, dia. 5mm

Kontronik Jive 100+ LV Brushless ESC (Version 9)

9470 Kontronik Jive ESC Heat Sink

Kontronik ProgCard II ESC Programming Card

9250 Kontronik Jive BEC 12" Cable With Ferrite Ring

EDGE 603mm SE Premium CF Blades - Flybarless Version

EDGE 95mm SE Premium CF Tail Rotor Blades

Still deciding on the FBL (will most likely go with the VBAR) and servos...

Ok so far??

I am looking forward to building and flying the 500!

Looks great. I have the 500 SE, just shortened down to the 3D length with similar set up.

I have to echo what everyone else has said, don't think twice about the FBL system. Get the V-Bar and you will be thrilled. I have flown just about all of the other systems out there and I promise you it will save you a headache or two if you just get the V-Bar from the start!

Check that pinion size with the specs of the combo running 603 mains - I'm sure the stock one is 13T (can't check mine as away from home).

I run 1850 and 1950 rpm, which I think are good for a balance between pop and flight times.

Question. If I am getting the VBAR to keep with the 500 or use later for another E-heli, am I better off with the mini? What are the main differences besides the remote sensor? What is the difference or features for the new Silverline?

Believe you will be happy w. 14t, on the flying style you mentioned. That is what I run and no complaints at all.

I use Mini Bluelines on both my Logos and very satisfied.
Think lot of people like the full size, for one, because much
easier to mount the remote sensor for no vibration. Had one
situation where the wires to the mini were pushing on it and
causing some slight 'funny' bobbles, but otherwise NO issues
w. either.

Thank you for all the advice guys.

One last question since I have most of the stuff already ordered.

I've noticed the Jive 100LV ESC is a 5 or 6V BEC and I think the V-Bar is supposed to be 5V. Would there be any reason to go with the Futaba HV servos? I would imagine if I went that route I would have to have a higher voltage external BEC as well to get the full benefit of 7.4V?

I went with a mini V-Bar. I'm sure it's not the last one I am buying anyways. What if I decide to build a 700 next???

I went with BLS451s and BLS251 for the rudder. Thanks for the suggestion!

Checked my pinion and is definitely 13T, come to think of it seem to remember a post a while back, where various people recommended the 13T for sport / light 3d running head speeds in the 1800-1900 range with 600 mains.

With the above you will have plenty of power and punch, but won't stress your packs too much, and enjoy decent flight times.
