The sound won't go away, it's due to the tight mesh of the tail drive gears in most cases.

You might want to open up the tail case holes in the frames so it can be slid back just a bit which will help a little.

Has anyone tried any lubrication on the tail gears?

We put a little trip-flow on the gears and helped a little bit. Still making a whinny noise that shouldn't be there???

Not sure what drive train noise you're referring to?

Is it that "whine" you hear like throughout this video?

Watch at YouTube

If so, that's just how the drive train sounds. It's not an "issue".

Otherwise, I'm curious to hear what you're referring to. Perhaps you could take a video?

Sounds sorta like that but just a lot more profound. Maybe just some more run time ya think?

The gears do take a few flights to wear in.

The whine in that video is just how the Whippy sounds though. I think it sounds cool personally, though I like my helicopters to make noise (Not somethings broken noises though! LOL!)

I have one that is a little noisier than the others ! Never been a problem!! Check that the tail gears have a little play in them like mike said! As long as that is good, fly the crap out of it!!

I am glad I seen this post because I just came in from the very first flight on my Whip and noticed the same noise from mine. I did check the gear train for proper backlash and did not notice any unusual wear or white dust coming from any of the gears. So this is good news that they do have a little bit of a whiny sound. I will just fly the crap out of it and not worry about then, thanks!. Russ
