Don't Give up Yet

Just figure the two holes for the lock's are for the lil- critter's to breath once you put them in their You can always fashion a set of custom plugs later : maybe use a different specie's of wood maybe even cast a jewel into them with resin. Kinda like a knot hole repair

Just pondering without a sketch: or a eraser

Remove the long cantilever arm's off the long std lock assembly and maybe move them over to the same side - up close - using only the short section - arm of the lock

Repair and plug the fractures slot : Maybe think of a tongue and groove with a wooden tang on the drawer top - notching into the casement, maybe a dowel into a socket.

You can even get wicked crazy - with roller drawer slides and a set of pneumatic strut lift's. Up and rolls off to the side for a table.

You haven't got the wheels or collapsible handle figure yet -
Install handles : So you don't lift by the lid.

You can also go Houdini - Not lock's - just pill pin's or the magic hand shake on the handle's - Leve em in their to confuse them

Pencil Paper Eraser : It will work out - Wax ON / Wax OFF

Of all the furniture : a 6 sided box is the hardest

When I get weird-ed out on a project I just take a spin around the shop on this - they know enough not to bother me till I got it figured out or I stop talking

On the slots for the locks...maybe a thin 14ga metal backup plate about 4"x6" with a slot cut in it. Then epoxy it to the inside, so as not to be seen. This would beef up that area.

Get these working. They look great.

Hey the metal is an idea......Im thinking a U shape, rolled over on both sides. That fits in nicely with a long term upgrade item......

Can you say "Printed Wrap"?

Grey Eagle,Nice Moose!
Im not too concerned with this actual prototype. There are literally dozens of ways to secure the top/bottom. This "fail" is limited only to the original design...and the problem(s) brought to light are not a big deal. This box will find use this year, Ill just use some pins to secure the top/bottom. Not sexy, secure or to plan but itll work.
Yes V2 is in the works....Thank you all for the input. V2 is going to be a 2 up configuration.
