Pretty awesome set up.

The 1500mAh batteries I have are a bit weak on the OS105 when it's freezing cold...Probably ok in the Summer and worked great after I turned it over a few seconds with the Hobbico 180 on 5S...The Hobbico on 5S will start a diesel.lol...

Very compact and not real heavy.

I like that it stands up on the shelf now.

Gonna bring a 3000mAh battery home from work tomorrow and try it.

Nice exactly what I had and kept it "just in case"

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

Thanks buddy.
Really diggin the JR wand too.

That stupid rubber cup set up is ridiculous and I got pretty pissed when the wand spun out of the cup and scratched my canopy.

I have a finer edge setup on a 180 TorqueMaster starter, I love it! The charge last a very long time, it has lots of power and it looks pretty sweet to boot!!

Perfect timing! I was just shopping out Makita batteries 1.5a vs 3.0a.

Looking forward to your report on the 3.0a

Do you have opinion on the 1.5a for OS 55hz? Sounds like it will work just fine.

Do you know if the 1.5 and 3.0 are interchangeable with the Makita charger?

Thanks!

1.5 and 3.0 batteries use the same charger and 1.5 should be fine for a 55 engine.

Here are some pics of my setup, I do still use the rubber cup but the way the blue hub with the owb fits in the cup Ive had no problems with it falling out. I prefer this type of wand for storing and traveling, with the wand fixed to the starter from tip of wand to back of the battery is about 19.75" or 50mm. With the wand removed the starter is just over 11.5" or 29mm, just a little easier to travel with.

I never weighed the TorqMaster 180 without the Finer Edge installed, with the the 180 starter, the Finer Edge battery mount and the 3 Ah battery it weighs in at 5.22 lbs or 2368g. I have a TorqMaster 90 starter, with the starter and the same wand that I weighed the 180 with, it weighed in at 3.026 lb or 1374g. Im not sure how good the comparison is with the windings being different but the physical size of the two starters is pretty close.

The largest nitro that i have used it to start is a .91HZ, there is definitely no problems there.

The 1.5 and 3.0 apm hour batteries are the same voltage and will give the same amount of torque to the starter. The 3.0 will just last about twice as long. However, the small battery cannot be used with a larger Makita tool (e.g. band saw, grinder) unless you grind off a small plastic tab on the small batteries.

You are mistaken Glenn...Sorry.

I know what you're trying to say but it's wrong.
The batteries output capability is directly proportionate to the capacity.

A 1500mAh 20C pack can put out 30 amps.
A 3000mAh 20C pack can put out 60 amps.

I just checked and when the heli is ice cold...the 1.5 will not even turn it over.

I replaced the pack with the 3.0 and it spins the engine faster than it would be when running at idle.
I spun it for 10 seconds to free it all up and put the 1.5 back on the starter....It will not turn it over.

Voltage is NOT what makes torque or I would have taken the battery out of my kids Barbie Jeep and put it in my truck to save weight

I literally never use the word literally right.

I remember when I flew nitros, that setup was the best thing since sliced bread. Paired up with a good battery, it could start a small car too

Just thinking starter hitting canopy and screwing it up because they are sticking pretty far,I would have cut them down and put rubber caps on them for protection of canopy and hands

The wand is like a foot long.
How deep does your starter go down into your heli?lol...

Those bolts won't even reach the main blades...let alone the canopy.

I might cut them for looks anyway but I just thought the panic stricken post was funny
