I have heard there have been a few guys experimenting with running a flybarless controller on a flybarred head. Presumably either being able to change the gain on the FBL unit between the hovering and the aeros or maybe just having it running all the time, I don't know.

Soooo, what details do we know about this? what has been tried successfully and with what FBL controller? Were any changes made to the flybarred side of the setup?

When setting up a new flybarless controller there is usually a point where the unit must learn the geometry for cyclic pitch, like on the BeastX for example it asks to be shown where 6 degrees of cyclic is. So I'd be interested to know how this was done etc.

Basically I am interested in any factual details about this.

I know that a TotalG has this ability.
I have never tried it but it has the ability when choosing the swash type during setup.

running a FBL controller on a flybarred helicopter
That would be like using a stringed puppet to control another stringed puppet!

Besides FC3 is not going to allow it.

Look into the helicommand line. these are already programed with the option to use a flybar. Some AP guys have used them already in this mode.

I just confirmed it with Curtis. It will work just choose flybar when you come to the swashplate setting.

If you select flybar, does that turn the gyro on two axis off, leaving you using the TotalG as a tail gyro and governor?

Yes. It will then be just a tail gyro and governor.

What I believe people are looking at is using a 3axis gyro in conjunction with a flybared head

There was someone doing this at the European Championships

that ^^^ is correct.

Many have used an FBL unit as a tail gyro only for an flybarred model.

The thread originator is refereing to all axis been stabilized in conjuntion with a flybar. That takes special software, which one unit has AFAIK.
