Guys - I have read the forums on the update, but I am still a little confused and would appreciate a few clarifications if possible.

I am updating directly from the original 1.0 version directly to 1.31, and my heli is a 90 size electric and has been set up on 1.0 as best as I could get it using only the basic set-up functions (I never tweaked any expert menu functions).

My understanding is that, theoretically, I can do the update, and when complete, do a basic pre-flight direction check on all radio input and gyro directions, and then, assuming they are all correct, I can just go fly. Is this correct? It seems like this is overly-optimistic on my part, because when I read the manual, it looks like I need to re-do a few things.

It looks like to make the 1.31 really work propoerly, I need to:
1) re-do the set up of the cyclic pitch to 9 to 10 degress from 8 to 9 in the basic menu. Is this correct or does the 1.31 update "automatically" do this?
2) I need to re-set the gains to 60 (equal gains for ail and ele) and then tweak from there if I want to.
3) It is fuzzy for me in the manual whether or not I need to set up the governor to a speed setting in order to get some kind of piro correction to work, or if this is just an option? I currently have the governor "turned off" as per the original version 1.0 instructions for electrics. Do I need to do anything here or is the description in the manual about setting a phantom headspeed just an option?
4) Do I need to re-do the elevator and aileron direction settings in the basic menu before flying?
5) Do I need to re-set the servo frequency? I am using Hitec digital servos (7940th) and I have no idea what to re-set this to or if I need to worry about it?- will the upgrade re-set this to the default setting listed in the manual of 70hz analog? - if so, it would seem as though I need to re-set this.

None of this is a problem - I just want to make sure I am covering off the "need to do" things before my first flight.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

- Ben

1) re-do the set up of the cyclic pitch to 9 to 10 degress from 8 to 9 in the basic menu. Is this correct or does the 1.31 update "automatically" do this?

>>Set up is not automatic. Adjust the throw mechanically if needed to get the requisite throw. Measure cyclic pitch in swash AFR mode only.

2) I need to re-set the gains to 60 (equal gains for ail and ele) and then tweak from there if I want to.

>>60% is not written in stone but works well. Keep the gains the same for the AIL and ELE.

>>If phase equalization is ON, then the headspeeds should be entered into the 750 and should correctly change when you change flight conditions.

4) Do I need to re-do the elevator and aileron direction settings in the basic menu before flying?

>>Read carefully the new instructions for the update. There is new functionality to ease the process of getting swashplate movement correct.

>>Servo driving frequency will not reset from where you currently have it set. Most digital servos will support 285hz.

Read the tuning notes, too.

I can confirm the Hitec setting for item 5. Run Hitec 7940TH servos on 285hz. That is the same servo and setting I have run for hundreds of flights on a G4.

Well...just to close this out. I did the upgrade directly from 1.0 to 1.31 and it was an easy upgrade. Set up went well. Got the first flights in and I am very impressed so far. The tail hold and consistency is very much improved...my flying is really not good enough to say much more, but all in all, a big improvement and the effort to do the upgrade was well worth the time!

CGY750 1.30 to 1.31 update
I had a conversation with Nick Maxwell at Toledo yesterday on the update procedures because I was not getting the initdata after updating the CGY750 and he said to redo it again. I tried 3 times but never saw it, so I went bact to the release notes and found this at the bottom:

(VERSION 1.31)
Notes : When updating to V1.31 firmware from any version PRIOR to
V1.30 (e.g. V1.0-V1.2), the INIT DATA screen appears with the first power up after update and must be allowed to disappear before proceeding; never power down the CGY-750 before the INIT DATA screen disappears.Conversely, when updating from V1.30 to V1.31 firmware, the INIT DATA screen does NOT appear with first power up. The display will simply show Ver:1.31.
[/B]

I wondered why the Heli kept getting bigger....then it hit me!
