Man I'm having a real hard time getting spark from the new g20 with zenoah. I have it timed on the correct magnet. If I move the sensor around, it will spark, but cant get it to spark with bracket on and CAN get it spark all day with a radio shack magnet on the work bench. I tried washers underneath the bracket, shaved plastic off the sending unit holder to stop it from rubbing on the fan blades,it seems that it likes the tip end of the sensor, phew man I'm tired, any suggestions? thanks Randy

So you're saying you get no spark at all with the sensor installed. Could it be a week or not strong enough pack supplying power to the spark controler?
I had very similar problems with my G20. I used eather to get mine to start the first few times. If the motor isn't broken in already it takes some extra effort to get the motor going. After about a gallon of fuel it was a lot easier to start.

I always have fun. Some times are more fun than others.

Using a life pack
Stayed at 6.6 volts all the time. As I said with a magnet on the bench simulating a turning fan, it fires every time, but It's a radio shack magnet. I wonder if the magnet in the fan is weak or the sensor may be bad. I called Heli World earlier, but they haven't called me yet, any help or experiences with the same symptoms??

Do you get any spark with the magnet in the fan? I, too, thought I had isues with my timing and the fan. They both worked fine. I'm still kind of a newbie. Had my G20 over a year, but still working on setting it up.

Is the motor flooding? That was my biggest problem. The fuel was dripping out of my exhaust. I eased back on the throttle and gave it a quick squirt of eather and it fired up. At a much higher RPM than desired, but it fired up.

I always have fun. Some times are more fun than others.

I agree with strat, check the magnets in the fan. Only one of them will set off the spark, the other is for 'balance'

If neither of the fan magnets work then you probably have a bad fan. If one of them does work, try installing the sensor in the other direction on the bracket. It has been a long time since I installed mine and cannot remember if it even fits in both directions or not.

+++check your magnets...

just as Gboden said (hi greg) only one of the two magnets will trigger the hall effect sensor to send a spark to the plug...but you also need to make sure that the right magnet is the one doing the triggering....

basically you want be looking inside the plug hole watching the piston rise up, just before it gets to the very top your plug should fire....by specification the plug needs to fire 27 - 28 degress Before TDC. if its firing at any other time or not at all the magnets are weak or reversed.

Which fan are you running, the black plastic fan or the upgrade all aluminum one?

can you post a picture of how and where your sensor is mounted on the engine?

Have the black plastic fan
I have identified the magnet that makes a spark with a mark. If I wave the sensor all around the magnet on the fan, it will fire maybe once or twice then it's hard to get fire. With the magnet on the bench from radio shack, I can move the sensor to it and away,it fires every time. I haven't put any gas in in it yet, I wanted to verify spark first and man am I glad I did. thanks for all the help.

definately a weak magnet problem....I had the same issue when I first purchased the G20 when it first came out and it had the black plastic fan...I blistered up my fingers pulling and pulling on the pull start trying to get it to run...ruined the OWB and the start shaft with a starter...

finnaly took it off the heli, mounted on a test stand, put back the prop hub, installed a prop and got it running that way first on the test stand....once I was happy with the idle and WOT on the stand I put it back into the heli but with an all metal fan (since the black plastic unit was out of stock).....been running with that aluminum fan sinse then, I never trusted that black plastic fan....

I have never tried replacing the magnets on the plastic fan, nor do I know of anyone that has...normally they return it for an exchange...

sorry I don't know much about the stock E Ignition because my Hanson 20 has a different brand, but I wonder if the Sensor has a Negative and Positive side ??, <I ask because the sensor on my governor has a Negative and Positive side

if it does you will have to turn the Sensor around or turn the Magnet around

magneg
Change both magnets out just get your new ones installed in the right direction. Wish they would change this on there kits. The magnets are just week. From th top of the fan there is a small hole. Pop out the stock magnets and replace. Just get the direction of the new ones right. Come on century. Easy fix put rare earth magnets in these and save us the small issues.

@ Groran
FWIW...I used a folded business card as it sets gap to approx 1mm.

I read you are using 6.6V...what are the specs for your Ei unit?

EI specs
6-7.4 volts. I think it may be weak magnets. I see where century has conveniently stopped making metal fans as that was what I was going to request as replacement, free, or at least at a reduced cost. Called 3 times in 3 days and no return call, that's making my next heli choice easy at any price.

Sorry things aren't working out for you with this heli. I can only speak from my own experience, but Century has taken very good care of me. I have worked with several folks there, but Julie was the most recent. She took great care of me. If you ask for her, she might be able to help you out.

Paul called me
We got it squared away. He said sometimes the magnets demagnetize and won't work proper. So he is going to test and send another fan, so they are taking care of it, so I hope this does it and I'm sure it will. I'm sure he was just back logged with calls, real nice guy too.

supposed to be. It's the modified version, comes with the good ignition, the torpedo pipe, starter, etc. The only think I don't have yet is the aluminum spacer block. Got the big bore carb waiting to go on too.
