This may be of interest for any UK flyers here.
hobby king are pleased to announce their first Fly-in event to be held in the UK on Saturday 17th August 2013 at Kirbride Airfield situated in the superb Cumbrian countryside in conjunction with Carlisle Model Aircraft Club, Solway Light Aviation and RC Model Flyer Magazine. The airfield has two Tarmac runways and a heli pad and this event will be using the lot! The airfield is easily accessed off the Carlisle ring road, which in turn is easily accessed from the M6/M74/A7 & A69 Junctions.
The event is called "THE hobby king FESTIVAL OF RC FLIGHT".....sounds a little grand? Not a bit of it, due to the sheer size and layout of this fantastic ex ATA/RAF airfield we have been able to divide Kirkbride into the following flying zones:
Zone 1 - Main runway for fixed wing models with U/C (Sorry, no turbines)
Zone 2 - 450 metre Grass Strip for parkfly models, gliders, etc with no U/C (bellyland)
Zone 3 - Helicopter & multi rotor (Tarmac landing area)
Zone 4 - Free flight area for local and visiting schoolchildren who will have access to hobby king Freeflight models to build and fly.
This variety of RC Disciplines will make for a uniquely fascinating and fun fly-in and to add to the fun, the hobby king team will be there as will the HK video crew, we will be running competitions and give aways all day and will also be presenting trophies for certain categories. The flying will kick off at around mid-day so for those pilots gathering in the morning, we are hoping for some full size aircraft displays, the flying goes on until 8pm!
This event has been mainly aimed at pilots in the North of England and Scotland (a smaller fly-in at Elmsett will be announced shortly) however, all are of course welcome. For those in the South who maybe fancy attending this event and want to make a weekend of it with the family, there is no shortage of tourist attractions locally, from Carlisle Castle to Hadrians Wall and if you want to see the Lake District from a unique perspective, we would encourage you to look at organising a fantastic pleasure flight over the Lakes in an Auto-Gyro (from Kirkbride) at:http://www.chrisjonesgyroplanes.com
(tel: 07796 955805)
In terms of accomodation, there is no shortage of B&B's and hotels in Carlisle and outlying villages, not to mention some very good pubs!
Carlisle Model Aircraft Club will be running the event and have entry forms available here:http://cdmac.org.uk/events/august-2013-flyin
Pilots must of course be BMFA insured and fee's for the day are £5
Models do not have to be from hobby king, more info as we get it, we look forward to seeing you there!
