It's winter, it's cold, it's snowing, and I'm out of work. So boredom has set in while looking for a job and got me thinking about the spring flying season that is right around the corner.

I am thinking of converting my SDX to FBL and while I would love to have the Hirobo FBL head for $449 that is not going to happen. Been reading through the old posts on here and elsewhere but have seen nothing recent. So I am looking for updates on what some of you have that works as an inexpensive FBL setup for an SDX.

Also what are you using for an FBL unit?

Thanks.

I would suggested buying a mik follower for a 10 mm main shaft and some heavy links for the swash to grip. I used a century ball because the stand off was shorter then then the Hirobo and kept the angles and the twisting to a min. I don't remember the part number maybe Terry M can let us know.

Thanks Tim. Guess everyone else is on vacation. This the follower you're talking about?

What FBL gyro do you use?

You ever come up for the RAMS Jamboree in August? You're name sounds familiar.

I use the Mikado puller but there is also a 10mm Hirobo that can be used as well. Two 80-85mm 2.2mm pushrods and Rocket City links with Century balls and plain 3mm nuts complete the head. The Century ball is: CNLR1017 The rods are CNLR 2285.

I've gotten to the point where I've procured a Hozen thread roller and now I do my own rods from W1 drill rod. I haven't needed to buy pushrods in a while now.

Thanks TM. Is that a picture of it installed in your gallery between the red pickup pic and the Helicommand fbl unit?

Yes, that's the configuration that I fly right now. Works great and the dampeners are perfect for FBL.

As they say, align parts will not work right in a Hirobo. I have an align engine in the Freya but you can't really see the name too well.

TM, now do you like the Helicommand unit? Almost everyone at the field has GY750s but I'm not sold on them. Beastx, ikon, or Helicommand from what I have been reading would fit me.

The HC is a great unit. Mine fly very well. The tail is the star of the show, very consistent and well mannered.

Tails have always caused me problems. I have two GY701s and a GY611. None of them seem locked in. The best locked tail I have is a on a Blade 300x which has the Spektrum/Beastx unit on it. It is solid.

Is it fairly easy to set up? I will be on my own at the field unless I get a GY750. But I am the only one that flies Hirobos so being different is not an issue.

10 minutes with software and you are done. That's it. Initially it may be a little to get your head around but once you figure out how to do it, it takes very little time to set one up.

Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. And at $250 the price is right. I will do some more reading on it. Now I need to look up all the other items.

Thanks.

Have you checked out my SDX FBL head? I converted my stock head with Dr. Ben's help.

Hi Rudy,

I remember reading that post and seeing the pics last year. Do you have a link to it.

Thanks Rudy. More reading to do.

I'm getting excited about doing this when I should be looking for a job. Today is a holiday though, right? Even for the unemployed. Just sold some items that will fund the project.
