How does Kyle Dahl (and others) set-up such a fast piro rate as seen @ 1:56 in this video?

Watch at YouTube

I have a Furion6 with a 12S set up using a full-size vbar (pro) blue line. Even dialing up the piro rate in the vbar software, I cannot get that speed.

Back the tail gain off on a switch and it will be like a blur.

Saw much of this two years ago at IRCHA by many pilots, not as much this past year.

Make sure you have the T/R end points mechanically maxed out to begin with (if the V-Bar's T/R end-point adjustments in the software are maxed-out, but there's still room for travel mechanically, use a longer servo arm).

Then in the V-Bar's tail yaw rate adjustment slider, you can digitally enter a value in the box at the top of the slider, higher than the reading it shows when the slider is maxed-out at the top.

Sneak-up on a setting, raising the value 5 points at a time, noting the increase in yaw rate until it's fast enough for you.

But be careful, as it's not that difficult to blow-up a machine from "over doing it" just a little too much

And once you get it spinning that fast, it's best to "ease-out" of the rotation, rather than letting the stick spring back to center. Hard stops from "blur-piros" (as Kyle likes to call them), are REALLY hard on machines.

Hope this gives some insight into the issue.

there is a guy here in Phoenix that does an absolutely wicked piro with a 700 nitro. So fast that I don't know how the tail stays together when he stops.

As Terry stated, it's not all that difficult.

Before I learned how to really set a gyro/tail rotor servo properly many years ago, a full-rudder piro in my helis was really scary, much faster than that seen in the video. Truly a blur, as Terry noted. Low gain, lots of mechanical travel.

blur-piro
ya skookum was the first place i had seen really fast tail yaw rates called that, when the rave 450 was coming out they had a video with the little rave spinning faster than any heli i had ever seen up to that point and it sounded like an ele drill lol, i don't think i've seen anything faster but at that speed it's kind of hard to tell as it's just a "blur"....

Check out 3:15 and 3:25. Sounds pretty cool!

Thank you Dave and others - appreciate it!

Wow - That Protos sound like a hive of angry bee's. Too bad the video is out of focus more than it is in focus.

I remember the old Futaba 601 and 611 tail gyros could be sent into blur mode by double pumping (full rudder-center-back to full rudder quickly). It was quite a spectacle, but once you've seen it or done it, it was no biggy.

I wish I had a video of blur piros and hard stops I was doing when the tailboom broke just behind the supports. Like he said, take it easy.
