So I'm just getting in to helis from planes, and have been putting in time on Realflight.

Anyway, I bought an Align 550e flybarless from a friend and set it up with the hc3sx.

Though I hope I don't need it, I was thinking of using training gear to start with, but I've heard flybarless controllers don't react well?

I have used them in the past on my HC equipped heli's, no problem. Just do not let the heli spoolup too long on the ground before lifting it into the air or you may get some resonance vibs that might confuse the HC gyros. Also, ditch the TG as soon as you can takeoff, land, and hover tail-in and side-on (maybe even nose-in).

In theory you should not need any TG with a hc3sx. Just fly it initially with ~15-25% horiz gain so that it self-levels when you center your cyclic stick(s).

Good luck and Cheers,
TomC

Thanks.

I've finally been able to go out and fly out a few packs.

I never did try putting training gear on it, as it handles pretty well and isn't difficult to land (thanks to sim time).

I did end up turning the dual rate I had set higher as low rate was initially way too soft. Having the self level turned up actually kind of bugs me, as it seems to fight you sometimes.

Anyway, I think helis are going to turn out to be quite the challenge; but also a lot of fun.

I don't really understand when people sometime say something like "it feels like it's fighting me" when refering to the self-leveling because i fly my HC3-SX alot with the self-leveling set as high as 100% yet it never feels like it's fighting me as i can make it do whatever i want and it always does just what i tell it to, i guess i'm just not quite understanding what mean or what they are talking about when they say "it's fighting me", what i mean is when i tip the stick to the right the heli tips right, when i pull the stick back the heli tips back and the further i pull the stick back the more the heli tips back and it's all very predictable and smooth, could you try to explain to me how or it what way you feel the heli is fighting you as i'd really like to understand what people mean when they say things like "it's fighting me" ?

Mate, if you do not think the HC SL is fighting you even at 100% gains then I would not worry what others feel/think, lol!

Well no i don't, it always does just what i tell it to and there no fighting involved to make it do so.....

But anyways i'm not worried Mate, i just wanted to understand what they are talking about, is that ok ?

Sorry, I did not mean to imply there was any problem in you asking this (or any) question. If you feel that you have full control without the heli fighting you at 100% SL gains then I just do not understand why you are concerned. Anyway, if you are just curious;

For me, if I try to fly around with more than 50% SL horiz gains (even with early over-ride settings) the heli tends to snap back to center like a coaxial heli. I guess it depends on your application whether this is something you want it to do or not. Might be good for AP work? Hovever for me, if I'm trying to move the heli around quite a bit I feel it fighting me as my sticks go through center. Fine for slow straightline flight if you just have to hold the sticks say forward.

Some guys are using very low SL gains (~16%) in order to practice a few very light 3d moves. Still gives them a fairly freely moving heli but also self centers (slowly) if neccessary by just centering the stick. Probably very good for inverted training.

I've tried this and it does not feel natural enough to me and still feels like I am fighting the sticks a bit. My preference is to fly around without any stablisation (= rigid mode) and use the HC3SX Captain Rescue (100% SL with climbout) if I get into trouble.

Hope this helps explain what 'fighting the sticks' means to me. May mean a lot of diff things to other guys depending on the application imho.

Cheers,
TomC
