I've recently been having speed issues with my ISP and found out that my modem was an older DOCSIS 2 modem. The tech just left after installing a new DOCSIS 3 modem and well, hopefully my speed issues will stay resolved. I wanted to throw this out there for the not so tech savvy folks out there that don't realize that there is more than just hooking up a box to a cable and you have internet. Check your modem model# and Google it to make sure it is a DOCSIS 3 modem. If not, I would check with your ISP to see if you can get it replaced/upgraded.

Yup. 3 is the new standard. I had signed up for 30 meg service at my house and was only getting about 15. Figured it was a congestion issue and I was decently happy with 15.

Had an issue come up and the person on the phone said I might want to upgrade my modem. I did, and I was promptly getting 75 meg.

Just did this as well...
Unfortunatly I have the phone service as well so mine wasn't just a drop in fit either. The 911 system must be told everything about your modem, or emergency vehicles won't know where to go. The Docsis 3 modems have 4 channels for the up and the down instead of the 1 up and down that the 2 has. Speeds jumped up considerably.
