Please can someone check this logic ...

I require a 900 head speed on a gasser but the GV1 only goes down to 1000rpm - I am using a Stator Gator on a RC Motor

Can I trick it by increasing the gear ratio – will this result in a lower head speed or will it try to keep the head speed at 1000rpm and over rev the engine?

For example:
1) Motor RPM = 9000 – gear ratio 8 (112 main / 14 pinion) set to 1000rpm

2) Motor RPM = 9000 – great ratio set to 10 – head speed governed to 900rpm??

The other option is to use two magnets and the external pickup and set the RPM to 1800

I think you can switch the gov to read engine speed instead of rotor rpm. not sure what the lowest limit is. yes u can change the gear ratio too since it doesn't actually measure rotor speed.

the gear ratio setting doesn`t do a anything except translate engine rpm to HS

set it by using engine rpm
for a 50hyper 19K is good for 3d
for your engine find out what the max rpm is

ya 2 magnets maybe needed to cut rpm in half

Your method should work fine i believe. Tweaking the gear ratios a little to get a lower head RPM should be no problem.

the GV-1 is taking your pre-set headspeed, in conjunction with the gear ratio that you set, to control the engine rpm. It has no idea that your gearing is a little low

Thanks for the feedback

I changed the GV1 display from Head Speed to Engine Speed and adjusted the Gear Ratio until I got the required Engine Speed (7200 rpm)

With engine governed at this speed the actual gear ratio of 8:1 should translate to 900 head speed

It was a little counter intuitive - that I had to reduce the GV1 Gear Ratio rather than increase it to get to the required RPM! It does make sense though when you focus on the engine side rather than head speed

With good weather over the weekend - I will continue testing the mechanics in preparation for the 1/4 Scale Jet Ranger. I have the throttle curve in the right area and want to engage the governor to keep the head speed more constant and control engine overspeed when reducing collective
