Futaba 14mz
Just sold my 14mz (2.4GHz) after using it for about 7 years... Now will either use my Spektrum DX-8 and a new Futaba 14SG (if it ever comes out) or just go with the Spektrum....still have to decide.

Make sure you don't use the backlight outdoors because it doesn't do any good (and kills the battery). You will need to use the sunlight to see the screen

Battery consumption is on the high side and the batteries don't seem to last that long. Probably better to store it at half charge when not using it. Tried a Sony NP-F570 and it started to lose capacity after only about 2 years. A Duracell replacement is guaranteed for 3 years...inexpensive and is probably your best bet:

http://www.duracelldirect.com/part_...x?equiv=NP-F570

Hopefully you have a good touch screen as the initial ones didn't work too well. Mine was replaced after 6 years of torture (had to press hard for anything to happen) and then it worked fine.

Enjoy the 14mz,

Michael

I replace the NP-F570 every two years. The guarantee for three years does not cover loss of capacity. A battery is considered dead (by the manufacturer) at 50% capacity.

Chris,

Check to see what version of the software you running your new transmitter. 1.7 is the current version. You can download it here. http://www.futabarc.com/software-updates.html

I have two OE battery packs for my 14MZ, both are over 3 years old now. I charge one while I fly or program with the other. I recommend this as the best way of using the batteries.

I hope you enjoy the system.

My 7 year old OE Futaba still has 1500 mAh. You don't have to stop using them just because they loose a little capacity.

If the screen is locked with the security code, you have to have the code to get into it. Only way without the code is to send it in to Hobby Services and they can unlock it.

No that is not true. You can load an earlier firmware version and then run the calibration utility and it will show you the code "user id" that is set. I had to do this years ago after I forgot the code....

I'm not sure where you obtained the service software. But that is not something that is available to the general public. Using it without specific knowledge can cause damage to the system.

As Kevin pointed out, contact the person you purchased the system from to get the unlock code they programmed into the transmitter. If they no longer have it, you'll need to send it to your closest service center to be unlocked.

The usual reason for not having the code is a stolen radio.

Maybe he never changed the code. I think the original is 0000 but Futaba would surely tell you that. May be in the manual.

Make sure you have a straight line throttle curve from 0 through to 100 and your ATV/AFR are set to 100's

Connect a servo into the throttle channel and let us know what it does.

channel 3 (throttle) needs to be reverse for just about every ESC you connect to it. And try lowering your throttle trim to minimum.

Have at least half a dozen Align ESC's with all sorts of Futaba RX, no issues.
