since I needed a new computer anyways I got rid of the desktop (stuck @home BS) and bought a I5 for less than the cost a heli kit
Now I can use my pc anywhere.

besides most fbl units require a computer.
something that uses pots for adjustment will be subject to noise as the pots wear.

My first set,I drilled myself.
The new set were stock.
So you changed the setup....not really a field adjustment even still, that would take maybe 3 minutes to adjust as no other parameters need to be adjusted. Do it at home the night before you fly, it will be exactly the same in the air if you adjust it to the same parameters.

Yeah...I changed the set up.
I don't want to use a computer and that's my choice.

I've flown a BUNCH of V Bars.
I've flown a BUNCH of BXs.

I prefer BeastX....which is really the only reason I need.

That is fine if that is what you want to use. Most people finish the setup portion of a FBL setup and never touch it again especially since the setup has to be within certain parameters.
I get it, you like to tinker, I like to set it where it needs to be (absolutely correct geometry) and fly as it will be perfect.
Hey with the Beast, you can play with the blinking lights all you like at the field and in my experience with the Beast, you will have to

Coming off a string of Gyrobots which i have used since i started flying FBL, i just decided to try VBar. have them on both my Xxtreme and Vibe E8.

I am struggling to get used to the feel of the thing versus the gyrobot. Hold and all the usual parameters are fine, its just the feel in flight is just a little off for me, i.e. it doesn't feel as natural versus the gyrobot, especially if comparing to the context i am familiar with, flybared helis from my past. I find the Gyrobot simulates the feel of a heli with some v paddles quite nicely and am not yet able to get the same from the Vbar. I am sure its just a programming thing, there are a lot of parameters to play with, so maybe, but it certainly doesnt do it out of the box for me.

Hey McKrackin, you've had BX's so I figure you know what you're getting. Me personally, I don't care much for the pots but you're kinda right, it's pretty common for people to tweek their fbl units at the field no matter which one they're using. I've even seen pros doing so with their vbars.Team POP Secret

Parsifal, what version of VBAR are you flying? I am guessing at least 5.3 on the XXtreme right? You try and adjust the style setting? Kinda changes the feel. You can also try bank switching and have all the parameters identical except the style setting, then you can switch in flight and feel the difference right away.
You can so buy a $6 Bluetooth module and if you have an android phone, you can download the VBAR app and make adjustments on the fly at the field. No need for a computer like some would like you to believe
You can also do setup with the app

Thanks Laughingstill. Yep, 5.3 on the Xxtreme. Right now i am at the halfwaypoint between precise and vivid. I have no issues with lugging the laptop around, no issue at all, i just leave it in the car all the time. So i don't actually feel any real inconvenience with the vbar system.

Will given the bankswitching a try, right now i land, tweak and test. I am also playing with the acceleration on the tail. Taking it step by step, and we'll see where i get to.

If i find it all taking too long or ultimately fruitless, i can always go back to the Gyrobot. The vbar does its basic job flawlessly, so it is just be a feel thing which i need to tweak out.

Thanks again

I went with one a long time ago when they had just come out (and coz a friend of mine knew how to set them up when i was just starting with FBL), and it just worked well for me. I was flying a Vibe 90sg flybared model, made the changes to the E12 and FBL and slapped on a Gyrobot 900 and the system replicated the characteristics of the flybarred SG pretty nicely, with the added stability of an FBL. Soooo i stuck with it ever since, only deciding to try out Vbar very recently when i picked up the xxtreme.

the GBot works well and the cockpit programmer is reasonably intuitive, AFTER you get your head around the usual german manual.

Always so condescending.lol...

You make that statement in the same breath that you're telling people what to adjust on the V Bar to dial it in.

For me...I set up the BX and set the flight parameter to 3D and that's it.Exactly the feel I want.
I can never dial a V Bar in to get that feel.

Probably because of the fact that I started really learning to fly with the BX.

Nothing to tweek and no blinking lights to mess with.

The V Bar on the other hand....I might as well mount a laptop on the heli permanently.

Ernie, you like the BX because you set it up....correctly. You obviously did not do that with the VBAR the first time, flew it, didn't like it. That is fine, but realize, most people set it up (correctly), adjust it 3-4 flights, and then it is done......forever. Never needs readjusting, pots won't wear out and such. I was not trying to be condescending, i was giving you my personal experience. I get it, you like to tinker....probably why you fly nitro
Parsifal, I flew Gyrobots as well back in the day when I really did not understand FBL systems like I do now so I had some issues getting it to fly correctly but I finally got it and it was cool. The 900's were $$$ though.

Parsifal,

Lower the style slider further. In my experience the closer you get to the bottom the more it feels like a flybar. You can also add more paddle simulation. The default is only 20 and you need to change it to 40+ if you are looking for a flybar feel.

I agree with Ron on the setup. The beauty of the Vbar is that once you have it tweaked to your liking the setup is easily replicated on every heli you fly.

I have made about 50 flights with adjustments on the V Bar and don't like it.

I do NOT like to tinker with FBL gyros.
I like to take it out of the mailbox and have it flying the way I want 5-7 minutes later

The BX feels right on my 90s with almost everything at factory defaults.

I am sure the V Bar is great if you understand all the different adjustments.
I have had a bunch because I keep thinking this new one will be the one.lol....I always go back to BX....Plug and play

See for me it was just the opposite, I could never get that Beast to feel right. It always felt in inconsistent especially in the tail.
50 flights on a VBAR trying to overcome bad geometry will ALWAYS be frustrating.
I know what you mean about a lot of parameters though. VBAR 3.6 was a NIGHTMARE. Good thing with the newer firmware you can hold he mouse over the parameter and the VBAR will tell you what it is and what it does and how changing it will affect the Heli. Evolution is sometimes a good thing!

Guess what...

Just started hooking up the BX and found I have a servo with an intermittent power issue

May have jumped the gun on selling the V Bar.lol....

I'd say it was my power fault in the V Bar and I wasted money on a lipo and regulator too
