Jr 9303 dsm2 radio question
I'd like to know if a jr 9303 2.4 dsm2 is upgradable to run the newer X rx? I have been out of flyin for awhile and all this new stuff has me scratching my head. Thanks for any help.

The DsmX RX is backward compatible with the Dsm 2 transmitters. I do not believe that the 9303 is upgradable to DsmX. I hope that this helps.

Send it to Horizon Hobby.
They'll upgrade it for $50.

No real need in my opinion though.
The RXs will work anyway.

I called HH about my 9303 and they said they could upgrade it but they actually talked me out of it.
I literally never use the word literally right.

I just checked horizon and it looks as though the 9303 is upgradable.

In my opinion not needed, unless you want to feel more secure at mega large events.

I am still running dsm2 on my 11x with never an issue.

Here is the link for the 9303 upgrade.

Don't forget you can use dsmx receivers with dsm2 radios. I haven't bothered switching myself and probably won't .Heli-itis sufferer.

The X9303 2.4 GHz transmitter IS indeed upgradeable to support the DSMx protocol. You will have to send the TX to Horizon Service Center, they will charge you $75 for the upgrade.

As your radio currently stands, it will operate flawlessly with all DSM2 and all DSMx receivers. DSMx receivers will operate in DSM2 mode with your transmitter.

DSMx is really only "necessary" if you plan to fly at large events such as the IRCHA Jamboree, Joe Nall, SEFF, and other places where there will be hundreds, or thousands of other pilots on 2.4 GHz. If you intend to fly in "crowded" RF environments, then DSMx is for you.

If you intend to fly at your local site, or places where there just aren't a lot of other flyers, there is no need to go DSMx.

When operating receivers, do NOT intermix DSM2 and DSMx components. Receivers and satellites must all be DSM2, or all DSMx. For instance, you MUST use a DSMx satellite with an AR7200BX, as the AR7200BX is a DSMx receiver. If you use an AR7000 receiver, its satellite must be a DSM2 satellite, as the AR7000 is a DSM2 receiver.

Go fly and enjoy.

IF your transmitter uses DSM2 protocols, it will continue to work flawlessly with ALL DSMx receivers. Those systems will work in DSM2 mode.-----

Read this: https://rc.runryder.com/t594393p1/ and you may choose to upgrade your JR9303 dsm2 to dsmX as I did after having some hits on my Raptor 50 at our local field. I have not had any hits at all with my heli's since upgrading the TX and RX over to dsmX.

I still use the dsm2 receivers in my planes but all my 500+ size heli's have dsmX receivers in them.

Oh, and by hits, the heli went into failsafe but recovered before it crashed.
