os 50 hyper rattle
Running my engine yesterday I noticed a rattling sound at idle. I'm guessing this means it's time for a bearing replacement. The other issue I have had was having to lean it to 1/2 open on the needle or it would sound like it was running sloppy rich and have no power. At 1/2 open on the needle it flew fine, not a lot of power but it flew ok.

Can a bad bearing cause this tuning issue?

Thanks!

If the bearing is bad enough that it is throwing pieces around, I am sure I can cause tuning issues.

I would pull the motor check and replace rear and front bearings As needed. At the same time I would replace fuel lines to remove that as a possible problem.

Thanks guys.

There seems to be compression. It idles fine but if I richen the needle beyond 1/2 it won't transition out of idle to hover. Once I set the needle to 1/2 open it will transition and fly fine (bogs immediately on full collective climb out though).

Yes, bearing problem can cause tuning issues. From a crankcase leak to physical pieces being shed, it's not something to ignore.

Rear bearing sounds like it's due for a replacement. This is a good time to look at the piston skirt, the cylinder liner, and the ring to make sure the disintegrating bearing hasn't taken something else with it.-----

Half open on the needle it is...

I dropped another os 50 hyper I have into my heli and it is also running right exactly the same as the other, right around 1/2 open on the needle. It absolutely has to be the muffler. This is a no name muffler that came with my Audacity helicopter about 4 years ago. I wish I had a spare 50 muffler to try, maybe I'll look into the Maverik muffler.

Thanks

+1 loose baffle, never heard of a hyper running on half a turn open on the main, you must be just hovering the rear bearing must be giving you a bad result.
