Ds520 Tail Servo Spinning
Anyone knows how to fix the Align DS520 servo?
Or if is fixable?
I took it apart because the servo wasn't responding at the stick inputs.
I didn't find any strip gears, but anyway I took the first gear out and all of the sudden one of the gears started spinning and didn't respond at all, just spinning.
Is it GONE?
I haven't crash this heli, that I remember.
How did this happens?

That's actually normal.
It will keep spinning because it doesn't know where to stop.

Put it back together and see if it responds now.
If not,it's broke.

But the non stop spinning is what it will do with the main pinion gear missing.
I literally never use the word literally right.

McKracking.

I plugged the servo in other servo slot and now is not responding at all.
I have a spare ds520 and plugged to the gyro and is working fine.
Man how this is possible?
Not new but c'mon....

I think it's a bad pot....

I have a Savox 1258 with very similar symptoms.

Without the entire gear train intact, the feedback potentiometer does not turn when the servo runs; therefore the servo will just continue to run. If you turn the output shaft, you can get the motor to stop.

Since it doesn't run now when put back together, I suspect you have something wrong with the way the gears were installed and you've bound up the gear train.

Can you move the servo output arm by hand when no power is applied?

Dave,
I can move the servo by hand with the gears on
Signal wire is not loose
I plugged the servo to the aileron and it just responds randomly at stick inputs.

These are cheap enough that I will never risk a heli with a problem servo even if I get it working again. No way.

Totally agree with you.
I'm glad that nothing happened.
I was flying the heli and I saw that the tail wasn't responding to one side as before; I was able to land it safely.
It goes to the spare parts jar.
Just wondering, Why?

You mean why would I not use an Align 520 that was acting up if I got it to quit acting up?

They're too inexpensive to risk not just the cost of a heli but all of the effort dialing in a heli to my liking.

Check the gears - you may have a swage that has softened up. I had this happen on a DS610. The servo pot will tell the servo to spin until the pot is where the servo thinks it should be, but if the output shaft does not move because the swage is free-wheeling, the servo just keeps on spinning.

Thank you all for your replies.
I will double check the gears.

MartyH,
I was asking myself "WHY did this servo failed out of nowhere, I haven't crashed this heli for the servo going bad"
I have put too many hours on this heli to have it as I want it just to make it kiss the ground for a servo, it is as you saying, worth the risk.

When my servo failed, it was not due to a crash. It was out of the blue, after probably 300-400 flights.
