Bad starter? I don't think so.lol....
You guys saw my thread about the Hobbico TM not turning my heli...right?

I got the new 5S lipo in the mail today and thought I'd go out and give it a shot.

Now earlier today,I took my check valve out of my tank pressure line and it was completely stuck...Put a new one in and took the old one apart and got it working again and put it up as a spare.

Now I'm outside going to try the new lipo.
Stuck the TM in and hit the trigger....Holy s#!t....
It spins faster than the engine actually idles.lol....Have to pull the starter out to see if it's running or not

Here's the strange part....stuck the Align starter in the heli and it now spins it good too...

This is partly because the engine is warmed up....No doubt.
But my question is this...

Could the stuck check valve effected the back pressure enough to prevent starting?

Hydrolocked would be more my guess.Part 107.
The only ZERO flight hour certificate in the world.
It's like getting a driver's license without the driver's test.

It was turning over...just very slowly.
The Align starter spun it good enough to start it but hammered way more than it used to.

That's actually making sense to me now having thought it over.

With the check valve stuck closed, not only would pressure be held in the crankcase, fuel would also build up.

A little fuel under the piston...not enough to lock it up but enough to make it very hard to turn over.

When the 5S starter turned it over,it was instantly easier to turn...It probably pushed the fuel build up into the tank.

That's what we have been telling you. Throw 18+ volts at even the cheapy Torquemaster starter and it'll spin anything. If I can't hear it start by the exhaust, like you mentioned, sometimes you have to remove the starter to see if the engine is running.

Align is gear reducted so it will have more torque but spin slower ,the hobico will spin faster but if hydro locked or high compression it will burn brushes and lose life .As long as motor is not binding the hobico is a better choice just because align can strip one way or coupler because of the chatter .I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)

Hi

If the motor ran, it was not the check valve......

The engine died...wouldn't idle.
Then it wouldn't start again.

A few days later, the starter started having trouble and wouldn't spin it fast enough to start....It seemed it should start at the speed it was turning but it wouldn't.

I ordered a new starter and it wouldn't even turn it over but the Align starter would.

I got a new check valve and a 5S pack for the starter and it fired right up and now both starters turn it just fine and it starts easily.

The check valve I replaced was stuck closed...tight.
