all SOLDIERS NOT CREATED EQUAL
Let this be a lesson to those who want a trouble free war with electronics, should things come to this. Reason being, ALL SOLDER is NOT created EQUALLY. no no no no noooooo.

Like hey, I say, I'm not flying, I'm chasing down mysterious cutouts of motor, resets of rx. Those new motor/esc bullet connectors, esc/battery deans plugs, and well lets hope that's all, were giving me a pretty hard time recently.

WHY, 'cause I used SOLDER meant for fixing AUTO RADS and not electronics. OH YEA, I got a tiny amount of the 60/40 left over and really should have gotten more before soldering up my basic electrical connections with a heavy solder wire from my household hardware gear box, hey, who'da known.

So here's what happens when you use the nasty attitude lead solder, move the two contact points only a tiny bit before the solder hardens and electricity will not go through easy equals resistance equals frying, that's what my heli was glitching out on. Not the rx, not the antennas, not the motor, not the servos. or transmitter, or battery, or esc, or belt in the tail boom, not the cold weather (I love flying when it's snowing), just some wonky durn SOLDER, beehatch.

AGH, I mean argh, stupid stupid solder mistake cost me a hundred little fortunes by now, one motor, 2 esc's, time, trouble, not flying the last few perfect days.

Just when you think you use something convenient, it bites you in the arsenal, heeheehee, lol, ain't it funee, I' mean don'cha lubbit?

I digest

ech hem, only use solder strictly built for fine electronics everywhere. Take a lesson.

On the upside, I splurged for a Tarot zyx-s and dumped the horrible flybar get up on my se, thing took out my second last tail boom. Can't wait to see it in the air again.

Glad you were able to catch it. The radiator and other plumbing type solder is not for us.

It is not the solder as such, but the rosin paste. They use acid based paste, which as you know, will corrode and damage your contacts.

lol

similar, but not the same.

I hear the best solders for rc electronics is Sn-Ag-CU, Tin Silver Copper, no lead, high conductivity.

After a small war with rc electronics a person has to pick their heli back up and soldier on.

that's interesting!!!!!

This whole soldier/solder deal comes on the heels of my heli hick-ups and on re-wiring a house that has had faulty and/or old wiring for all of my life until now, what a battle.

All this because of a little bad SOLDER. Work before flying.

jus havin fun with it.

Got me some real SOLDER and going to soldier on to the shop to re-solder up some bad lead and acid filled joints. Now I'm so older and loaded with an armory (3oz) of ELECTRICAL Rosin core, Lead Free, Silver Bearing, 1.6mm SOLDER to weld up my battery plugs and bullet conns right and good.

Marching right along.

alas, the common denominator between Solder and Soldiers, TIN.

told ya they were different,

that is to say, I would have been better off to solder with a tin soldier than with the led solder I ultimately used which cost me more tin soldiers than I was prepared to loose.

I use 60/40 rosin-core solder. Works very well. However, you best get it while you still can because of the lead. This green solder crap that home depot sells is worthless. Takes way to much heat to generate a good joint/melt/flow/saturate. I threw it all out, went to radio shack and they still had the stuff we grew up with (60/40). Bought two big rolls. I am good to go.
