Can anyone explain how California is continuing to function as a State?
Just as the question stated, how the heck is this state staying afloat with approx $150 Billion to $350 Billion deficit? Is there anything that would cause the state to shut down? If I don't pay my bills, my living gets shut down. Can anyone help me figure this out?

They don't have to worry about anything. The Obummer and his pals WILL bail them out with your federal tax dollars.

Mark my words.

If the gov can just print with no repercussions as mentioned in the forbes link above, then why do we have to pay taxes?

not that facts mean a whole lot to you guys, but the california deficit in may of 2012 was 16 billion, not the absurb number posted by the OP. With the passage of Prop 30, there is relief for many government services, although nowhere near where it was pre-real estate gains. classes have been cut from higher education, tuition has increased, and class size has increased at public schools, to name a few examples. the job market is slowly recovering, foreclosures are down, and it is likely in the next few years the california economy will continue to improve.

and like it or not, and whatever you may think about the politics of this state, the california economy has a very real impact on other parts of the united states, so don't bask in some fantasy that we are struggling while there is growth elsewhere. for every californian that can't buy a new car because he or she is struggling, that lack of economic power affects jobs all over the US.

Possibly.

But, I don't believe it. California tax payers are paying absolutely extreme high rates for public union employees. That does not even mention the same retirement plans for the same group is so out of proportion to the rest of CA citizens that its shear ridiculousness. In addition you have more illegals in CA on the government tit than anywhere in the country. And, you have more sanctuary cities that welcome and encourage them at any cost.

All that comes at an extremely high cost to honest, hard working citizens that pay their taxes. Your claimed recovery makes no sense to me.

I am not saying I am right. I could very well be dead nuts wrong. But, I seriously doubt the claims of recovery.

Just my 2 cents.

A number of major Ca cities have already filed for bankrupcy...where have you been.....
but the california deficit in may of 2012 was 16 billion
Well the deficit maybe...but, Cali debt by their own buget task force is, as they say between 167 billion and 335 billion....thats quite a range there......yea, you guys are financially sound....No problems there.....
