2013 nats
See the dates this year are

7/27-7/30, check in on the 26th.

Isn't that about the same time as the worlds? Should be interesting.

Yep
Right at the tail end of the WC dates.

Don't think I'll be able to attend both events.

Thats a bit of a pain.
We brought our nats forward this year, so its basically a practice session for us on the team, before we head to the worlds!

I am concerned, without the bulk of the FAI guys, there will be almost nobody this year, unless new folks flying flybarless decide to join.

Well Chago this may be the best thing that could happen for the AMA classes.
You shouldn't need the FAI guys to hold a AMA NATS. But if you find that you do, you may then understand that the emphasis at the NATS. has been misdirected for far too many years.

George,
YOU know well I totally agree, but as you also know, they are still the ones that end up staffing and working the lower classes.

Nothing has changed. Wish I was wrong.

MPV,
As a suggestion would it not make sense in order to encourage entry's you must concentrate on your entry level participation in order to build future #'s. I have spent the last few weeks practicing the sportsman sequence and I must say I would be more enthused with more FF maneuvers and less hovering maneuvers. I would suggest dropping hover 2 and hover 3 and adding 2 more FF maneuvers to the sequence. Get your beginners in the door then ratchet up the hover maneuvers.

In the IMAC game we keep a very careful eye on our Basic class simply because that is our Bellwether to the future of the competition. The interest is developed in this class. If your #'ers are going down then I suggest that you look at your entry class very carefully to see if there is anything that can be done to increase participation.

How sad.
Five total entries for the three standard AMA classes.
Good for you five flyers, but AMA continually drops the ball when it comes to the AMA Nats.

Yes, numbers are low.

There are 14 pilots with 17 entries including F3C and scale and AMA precision.

We WILL have a good time.

In general people don't have the time, desire, or discipline to put in what is required for contest flying. You see tons of people flipping and flopping their helis and most barely under control. But try to hold a precise hover over a flag and realize how tough it is, most people will go back to flippity floping

I have to agree. I have been to every helicopter Nats since we had the first one there in 1994, I think that was the first year and I can't see where AMA has dropped the ball. They provide a fantastic facility in which to hold the National Championships. I loved it back when the Nats used to travel around the country, but I hated, just like everyone else, not knowing what kind of crappy field we were going to get stuck with.

Poor turn out and the decline of F3C and the lower classes has nothing to do with AMA.
