Rumor has it you can run a head speed of 1400 for hovering.

Test hover in the backyard was fun

It will take some time to sort out the BeastX unit, but the 1400 RPM hover was pretty cool.

Richardf, can You try 1300 rpm?
I am hovering on 1400 with 2 blades fbl. So i was thinking that with 3blades can do it lower.

Problem is the range of rpm you can achieve. Hard to achieve a low and high rpm in a suitable range. That's where I'm thinking 3 blade suffers, is in the upstairs department.

Rapidity - This is the MB-351 head and is made for a 10mm shaft, if you see the video of this head in hard core 3D action, it will be plenty strong for my style of flying. The MB-391 head is made for 12mm shafts.

Olaf - I will try 1300 RPM and let you know what the difference is compared to 1400.

Darren - I am using 140 degrees right now, although the swash has both options.

This is all just a exercise for me, building the foam 3 blade holder for the blades when folded was interesting too.

Based on what I have seen from the recent FBL contest in Japan and what they learned in testing of most current CGY750 firmware, little if anything is being left on the table in the use of the 3 bladed heads for contest use. In another year or so it will become very clear the way to go.

So when you crash a 2-bladed head, you replace the spindle. When you crash one of these, do you need to buy a whole new machined head yoke??

There are three spindles and they cost about 18 USD (corrected) for the package used on the MB-351 head.

As far as I know, the MB351 is for 600mm blade size and is good for JR's 8 cells series helicopters.

From the Caliber's 3 blade head experience, the lower rpm can be achieved by using smaller motor pinion.

As far as I know, crashes during f3c style practice or competition are the most rare occurence.

But If you everplant one of these at high speed, the last thing on your mind will be a broken head hub.

Now this 3 bladed head is making me very curious. I can now see how one can achieve lower headspeeds silky behavior without compromising the control per rev for the FBL unit... hummm

very high rpms (~2000) would not be needed becasue the responce and stability from the 3rd blade. It "should" groove around 1800 (or lower).

Richard,
Are you are running 700mm blades?

Santiago,

They are in fact 710s, with the slightly reduced span across the grips and with 95 tail blades, there is no overlap.

Hoping to test at the field this weekend with a headspeed of 1300.

Edit: Sunday that is, Saturday is the AMA show @ Ontario!

SWEET!
Been having the idea for quite sometime now...dunno whether higher headspeeds will have any effect on the mb351 head or should i go the K&S way...?
